17 Facts That Prove Kevin Spacey Was A Creep All Along

Actor Kevin Spacey was at the top of his game - the two-time Oscar winner had a starring role in Netflix's House of Cards which had become a critical success and landed 33 Emmy nominations. He also had two new feature-length films ready for release - The Billionaire Boys Club and the biopic Gore.

Then, in an interview with Buzzfeed News, actor Anthony Rapp sensationally claimed that Spacey advanced on him at a party when he was just 14-years-old. Spacey was quick to respond in an open letter that read: "This story has encouraged me to address other things about my life. I know that there are stories out there about me and that some have been fueled by the fact that I have been so protective of my privacy. As those closest to me know, in my life I have had relationships with both men and women. I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life, and I choose now to live as a gay man."

More victims have since come forward; film-maker Tony Montana claims he was "forcefully" touched by Spacey in a Los Angeles bar in 2003, another victim said he was 17-years-old when he woke up next to Spacey in the early 1980s with no recollection of how he got there, and a British bartender claimed Spacey had exposed himself in front of him then handed him a $5,000 watch to keep quiet. These were just a few of the allegations against the actor as more and more people came forward.

Spacey's publicist, Staci Wolfe, said the actor "is taking the time necessary to seek evaluation and treatment." Now, as we take a look back over the life of Kevin Spacey, his behavior was clearly overlooked for so long because the "master pretender" and "monster" has been playing the role of his lifetime - trying to convince the world that he was anything other than a sinister predator.

17 His Father's Cruelty Turned Him Into A "Monster"

Kevin Spacey was born Kevin Fowler and according to his estranged brother, Randy Fowler, the abuse suffered at the hands of their cold, cruel father turned The Unusual Suspects actor into a "monster whose life was a lie." Randy had received a photo from his brother that read: "I will invite you to the Academy Awards when I go." He recalled, "This picture is the moment my brother turned into this creature called Kevin Spacey. And that creature turned into a monster whose whole life was a lie."

Randy also claimed that he and his brother never had children as they feared this would pass on "the predator gene." He told The Daily Mail, "Neither of us had a chance growing up with two such damaged parents. I went through three marriages and 40 affairs."

16 His Brother Said Spacey Learned How To Be "Sly" And "Shut Down" Emotion

Randy also claimed that they grew up in a 'house of horrors' where they were beaten, starved and abused by their neo-Nazi father - who would trim his mustache to look just like the feared dictator and was a member of the American Nazi Party. Eerily, Spacey's character in House of Cards also had a strained relationship with his father, who had tied with white supremacist groups.

He also added that Spacey learned how to be "sly" and "shut down" any emotion to help him cope with his childhood experiences, revealing, "There was so much darkness in our home it was beyond belief. It was absolutely miserable." Adding, "(Spacey) tried to avoid what was going on by wrapping himself in an emotional bubble. He became very sly and smart. He was so determined to try to avoid the whippings that he just minded his Ps and Qs until there was nothing inside. He had no feelings."

15 He Set His Sister's Treehouse On Fire And Was Sent To A Military Academy

Spacey moved with his family more than 10 times throughout his childhood. In 1959, he was born in South Orange, New Jersey before moving to Los Angeles. Randy told The Daily Mail, "(Spacey) sold out to fame and fortune, but the truth was always going to catch up with him. This is just the tip of the iceberg. He has used his fame, power, and money to prey on those more vulnerable than him. This behavior has been going on for decades."

When Spacey was 15-years-old, he burned down a treehouse that belonged to his sister, Julia. An obsession with fire-setting is linked to sociopathy in young children and his parents then made the decision to send him to Northridge Military Academy. The family was already fractured beyond repair as his brother was left to face the abuse and his sister had run away from home.

14 He Was Then Expelled For Throwing A Tire At A Student

Despite his patent's efforts, Northridge Military Academy didn't exactly straighten out Spacey and he was eventually expelled for throwing a tire at another student during a boxing match. Before the event, his school counselor had recommended Spacey channel some of his "excessive energy"into acting. Following his expulsion, he relocated to New York where he studied at the Juilliard School but left to start acting in theatre before landing the film roles that would put him on the world stage.

It was around this time that he changed his name, his brother Randy revealed, "He has reinvented himself constantly and I believe it was to forget the horrors of our childhood. When he changed his name his life started to become a lie. He became a ticking time bomb."

13 He Has Allegations Against Him That Go Back Decades

    via: Flikr.com

Actor Anthony Rapp accused Spacey had advanced on him in the 1980s when he was just 14-years-old. The Star Trek: Discovery actor alleged that Spacey invited him to his apartment for a party but Rapp became bored and went to the bedroom to watch TV. He then recalls how Spacey followed him into the room and said the party was over. "My impression when he came in the room was that he was drunk,” Rapp said. "(Spacey) picked me up like a groom picks up the bride over the threshold. But I don't, like, squirm away initially, because I'm like, 'What's going on?'… He was trying to seduce me. I don't know if I would have used that language. But I was aware that he was trying to get with me."

Spacey said in an open letter, "I honestly do not remember the encounter, it would have been over 30 years ago. But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior."

12 Did He Lie About Being Mugged In The Park?

One of the most mysterious Spacey stories is one that took place in 2004 when he walked into a police station and claimed he was "brutally mugged." The attack, which allegedly took place in South London at 4.30am when Spacey was walking his dog through a park because "he had to go."

The notoriously private actor chose to discuss the event on BBC's Today Show, which was very unusual for secretive Spacey. Then oddly, he dropped all charges and said he was not mugged at all. He confessed, "What actually happened is, I fell for a con. And I was incredibly embarrassed by it. Some sob story about somebody needing to call their (sic) mother and could they use my phone." There's a big difference between someone running away with your phone and being violently attacked by a stranger in a park.

11 He Was Caught Acting Disgracefully On Holiday In Croatia Years Ago

Spacey made the headlines in 2008 when he was photographed on holiday in Croatia smoking something 'suspicious' and pulling down the trousers of a male friend and exposing him. At the time, The Sun reported the event as drunken holiday fooling around between friends, but in the light of recent allegations, the picture now has a more sinister backstory.

Even creepier is that 12 years earlier, Family Guy had already made a joke about Kevin Spacey's creepiness. The character Stewie, a baby on the show, runs unclothed through a busy shopping mall, shouting, "Help! I've just escaped from Kevin Spacey's basement." The 2005 clip from the show went viral again when one Twitter user reposted it with the caption: "Family Guy with the Kevin Spacey reference twelve years ago… creepy."

10 He Set Up Kevin Spacey Foundation To Help Young And Vulnerable Actors

Unsurprisingly, The Kevin Spacey Foundation, which was founded by the actor in 2004, is now under question. The charity that provides opportunities for young people in film, theater, and dance, offers scholarships and mentorships for emerging talent. Now the Britain's Charities Commission is taking action and investigating if the charity adheres to policies that help keep the students safe.

One spokesperson told Variety, "KSF has never received any report of improper conduct either by Mr. Spacey or anyone else connected with the foundation." Although one anonymous source claimed that Spacey "routinely preyed" on young people when he was creative director of London's Old Vic Theatre. Variety attempted to contact previous scholarship winners and students who had received grants through the foundation but they had refused to comment. Both the website and social media accounts for the foundation have since been shut down online.

9 He Already Hinted At Creepiness During American Beauty Oscar Speech

When we rewind back to 2000, Spacey's Oscar acceptance speech for his starring role in American Beauty now has a very dark side to it. He said, "To my friends, for pointing out my worst qualities. I know you do it because you love me, and that's why I love playing Lester, because we got to see all of his worst qualities and we still grew to love him." He added, "This movie to me is about how any single act by any single person put out of context, is damnable. But the joy of this movie is that it is real beauty, and we found real beauty in this extraordinary script."

Nobody really knew at this point just how sinister those "worst qualities" would turn out to be. Actor Christopher Shinn tweeted, "I always felt Kevin Spacey's 2000 Oscar speech alluded to/minimized his misconduct. I bet it'll be played a lot once more stories emerge."

8 Now That American Beauty Scene Is Unwatchable

Shortly after the first allegations emerged about Spacey, one fan tweeted: "American Beauty is one of my favorite films, but now watching Kevin Spacey's character prey on an underage girl makes my skin crawl." In the film, Spacey's character Lester Burnham pursues his daughter's school friend and even though she's a minor, the pair shares a kiss in one scene and he tells her, "I wanted you from the first moment I saw you."

Following the most recent allegations, Spacey will no longer receive the International Emmy Founders Award in New York later this month. The organizers had revealed beforehand that Spacey would receive the award to honor him as "an individual who crosses cultural boundaries to touch humanity." Now they have updated their statement to read: "The International Academy has announced today that in light of recent events it will not honor Kevin Spacey."

7 EIGHT House of Cards Staffers Have Come Forward About His Behavior

Netflix is finished with Kevin Spacey. The actor who played Frank Underwood on the hit political drama House of Cards has been fired from the role and instead, the streaming service is developing a spinoff series focusing on the character Doug Stamper, played by Michael Kelly. The series creator, Beau Willimon, said the allegations surrounding Spacey were "deeply troubling."

However, according to eight House of Card's staffers, Spacey created a "toxic" atmosphere and they told CNN that his behavior was "predatory" on set. One former employee even accused the actor of assault and revealed that Spacey would target young, male staff with inappropriate touching and rude comments. Netflix also won't release the biopic Gore which starred Spacey as they have made it very clear they've washed their hands of the actor.

6 Two Decades Ago He Tried To Bury A Story About Driving A Young Model To Secluded A Park

    gawker.com

Photos of Spacey emerged last week showing him cuddling and massaging an unidentified 21-year-old model in Topanga, California, around 17-years ago. It was the story Spacey had tried to bury as the pictures showed him driving the young model to a secluded part of Oakland Memorial Park. When nobody was around, he could be seen placing his head in the model's lap.

One year earlier, The Sunday Times asked if he was gay and Spacey responded, "The answer to that is no but why should it matter? Until the media stop using sexuality as a weapon against public figures, they will always lag behind ordinary, regular folk." A few years later he told The Hollywood Reporter, "Let's let people live their lives and do it the way they want to do it. All the chips will fall in the end, and we'll all be judged by a much higher power than Entertainment Weekly can."

5 He Turned A Blind Eye To Underpaying Robin Wright In House of Cards

Spacey acted as an executive producer on House of Cards which meant that he would have been involved in every aspect of production - including the salary department. His co-star Robin Wright put the whole production on blast when she demanded: "To be paid the same as Kevin." The actress who plays the role of Carrie Underwood revealed she was sick of the salary discrepancies in Hollywood and threatened the entire production.

At an event held at New York's Rockefeller Centre, she said, "I was like, 'I want to be paid the same as Kevin.' It was the perfect paradigm. There are very few films or TV shows where the male, the patriarch, and the matriarch are equal. And they are in House of Cards." She added. "I was looking at statistics and Claire Underwood's character was more popular than (Frank's) for a period of time. So I capitalized on it. I was like, 'You better pay me or I'm going to go public' And they did."

4 He Has Always Been Attracted To Creepy Roles

There's a reason why Spacey has always been attracted to creepy roles and that's because it doesn't take him much effort when it comes to acting. His brother Randy revealed, "Fans love the sinister characters he plays, but what they don't realize is he's not acting, that's really him. He hid behind a mask of fame. The richer and more famous he got the more he lived a lie. The world fell under his spell but I've long suspected there is a dark side to him."

He played the mysterious cripple Verbal Kint in The Usual Suspects, a sinister boss from hell in Horrible Bosses, the anti-hero Lester Burnham in American Beauty who had a thing for school girls, and the mentally unwell serial killer unhinged in Seven. Now his roles have a whole different context when they rewatched, proving fiction was never that far from reality after all.

3 He Used Girlfriends As A Cover Up

"Master Pretender" Spacey has used women to try and cover up his sexuality for decades. In 1997, Esquire published a piece on Spacey's sexuality and the actor was left raging about it. His agents wrote in a statement, "I will strongly advise all of the agents to dissuade their clients from doing interviews with Esquire as a result of their deceptive and fraudulent behavior with respect to their interview with Kevin Spacey."

During 60 Minutes with Andy Cohen, the actor lied again revealing he had "been in a relationship with a woman for years." Cohen later wrote, "I still get enraged when I think about him talking about being in love with that woman on 60 Minutes. Come out, sir."

Spacey also added that his 'girlfriends' are even more interested in him because of the rumors. He told Playboy, "For a few women, it's a challenge for them. They want to be the one who turns me around. I let them."

2 'Difficult People' Have Referenced His Behavior For Years

    junkee.com

Julie Klausner and Billy Eichner's comedy Difficult People about two struggling comics in New York City has referenced Kevin Spacey's behavior many times - proving it's been an open secret for many years. In one episode Eichner's character said he "shot up faster than Kevin Spacey's fly (on his trousers)" and in another scene, Klausner's character said, "What do kids hate? Let me guess… jazz… Kevin Spacey."

During another episode, Eichner's character also said, "Maybe I should just give up trying to find true love. I am just going to go the Kevin Spacey route, just stop being a human being, focus on getting famous, and after I have a hit Netflix show focus all my frustrations on a boyfriend young enough to be own son." Well, they certainly didn't hold back on anything.

1 His 'Coming Out' Faced A Backlash From Other Out Stars

When Kevin Spacey tried to cover up his advances on a 14-year-old boy by coming out as gay, he angered a lot of other stars who were not impressed with his timing or excuse. Vanity Fair film critic Richard Lawson tweeted, "For a famous person to deflect these allegations with a long-in-the-making coming out is so cruel to his supposed new community it stings. How dare you implicate (the gay community) all in this?"

Television presenter Sue Perkins also tweeted, "(Staying) silent on your sexuality (until the allegations were made). In doing so, you simultaneously undervalue the horrific nature of the allegation and set back the LGBT community. Well done." Billy Eichner added, "Kevin Spacey has just invented something that has never existed before: a bad time to come out."
