iHeart Music Awards Recap 10 Star Get-Ups That Made Our Heart Race
Last night, the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Awards were held in California. Music's top stars came out to perform, to show face and to accept awards. An awards show of this caliber requires excellent hosts, which included Hailey Baldwin and DJ Khaled this year. The night was one of the most entertaining nights of music all year long. It is only at this awards show that you will find Bon Jovi and Eminem performing within the same production. It is a truly unique award show that is completely fan-based.
With every awards show comes the attire in which our favorite celebrities show up. Award shows are the time when these creators get to meet up with one another and show off for their fans. Dressing to impress is a key to success, even beyond having incredible musical talent. Some of our favorite celebs knocked the ball out of the park and had outfits that left our hearts racing.
Unfortunately, some of our other favorite celebrities made our hearts flatline. While this event may not be as elegant as other award shows, we still expect for the celebrities to bring their A game. Who impressed and who was worst dressed? Take a peek at our list and see if your favorite celebrity ended up on either list!
21 Hot: Ashley Greene Looked Like A Twilight Dream
Ashley Greene became well-known in Hollywood for her role as Alice in the Twilight series. Since the end of the series, we have missed our favorite clairvoyant vampire from pop culture appearances. Greene graced this year's iHeartRadio red carpet in a black hi-lo dress. This dress featured a sweetheart meets V-neck neckline. It flared out at the ribs into a short hi-lo cut. The black fabric was designed with large, metallic hibiscus-like flowers through the body of the dress.
This complemented the blonde that Greene now dons in her hair. She accessorized this dress with a small black clutch with a gold outline, matching her dress perfectly. This look was the perfect mix of awards show meets concert night on the carpet and really balanced out her toned body.
20 Not: MAX Should Keep The Lights Down Low
MAX has hit the music scene in a big way with his song “Lights Down Low.” The twenty-something-year-old singer wrote this song about his wife. While she accompanied him on the red carpet, she must not have helped him pick his red carpet ensemble. MAX's pants had a satiny leather-like look to them. His shirt was silky with abstract artwork in every color imaginable covering it.
While it was a very vibrant look, it was a lot to take in at a glance. MAX left the first few buttons open to reveal a patch of hair on his chest, which nearly distracted from the rose-colored glasses. The brown dress shoes really clashed against the entire vibe. He seemed to be going for a Freddie Mercury look for this awards show.
19 Hot: Madelaine Petsch Was Pretty In Plaid
Riverdale's Madelaine Petsch was wearing school colors on the iHeartRadio red carpet. Petsch wore a two-piece crop top and pants ensemble in a blue plaid. She wore her red hair up in a cheerleader-like half up-half down hairstyle that would make her character Cheryl proud. The matching crop and short pants were also reminiscent of Harry Potter's Ravenclaw house.
The crop top cut straight across her chest and remained fitted to right at her rib bone. The pants started above belly button level, leaving about an inch and a half of skin showing. The pants stopped at mid shin, which was accented by her pointed-toe heels that came up to a crisscross strap around the ankles. She accented this look with a black fringe bag. She looked fierce.
18 Not: Charlie Puth's Outfit Gets Negative Attention
Charlie Puth showed up on the red carpet looking like he just rolled out of bed. While he is an incredible singer and songwriter, he may just need to hire a stylist. He left his hair long and the curls were unkempt. His outfit looked like he haphazardly put it together as he was running out the door.
The grey and orange jacket was not fitted to his body. He wore a plain white t-shirt under this that stood out for almost being too crisp against the rest of the outfit. He managed to put on dress pants, but they were a few sizes too big and were tweed. They were held up by a bright white belt and accessorized by white sneakers to match all of the too bright whites of his outfit.
17 Hot: Mackenzie Ziegler Is All Grown Up
Mackenzie Ziegler was always known for being Maddie's little sister on the reality show Dance Moms. Since leaving the show, the younger Ziegler sister has tried to continue her music career while pursuing other passions. Mackenzie Ziegler looked so much older on the iHeartRadio Music Awards' red carpet than from the last time we saw her. Ziegler wore an all-black outfit that was fitting for her age.
The outfit featured a sparkly black varsity style cropped jacket, a black leotard style top with small cut-outs and black skinny jeans. Ziegler wore strappy black shoes with this outfit. This outfit was sporty and fun, which was always Ziegler's personality while she was on the show. We hope to see her fashion sense grow as she does and to see more from her.
16 Not: Hailey Baldwin Proved All That Glitters Is Not Gold
Hailey Baldwin was one of the hosts of the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Awards. She took the time to walk the red carpet when she was supposed to be doing a sound check inside the building. Her outfit was a nude bodysuit that left little to the imagination. The neckline featured a wide by deep V neckline. There was a nude belt around her natural waist as well.
The rest of the long-sleeved, full-length bodysuit was made up of metallic fringe and embellishments. The fringe looked like tinsel sewn on down to Baldwin's hips to cover more than the embellishments did. The designs were a reminder of the temporary metallic tattoos that have been all the rage for preteens over the past two years. She paired the jumpsuit with gold metallic heels.
15 Hot: Bebe Rexha Showed She Was Meant To Be In Hollywood
Bebe Rexha was one to watch on this year's red carpet. Not only did she carry her adorable puppy onto the red carpet with her, but her look was stunning. Bebe Rexha wore a full-length, form-fitting gown. The dress started as a strapless turtleneck, wrapped around her curves and fell to the ground loosely around her feet.
The dress was a dark grey or black with a sparkly overlay. Without showing too much skin, Rexha kept the red carpet hot and age appropriate. She wore her hair pulled back into a low ponytail. Other than the pup, she accessorized this look with black hoop earrings, silver rings, nude lipstick and a smoky eye. She was seen constantly smiling, which made this look absolutely stunning.
14 Not: Camila Cabello's Outfit Was More Nah Than Havana
Camila Cabello was one of the celebrities who was receiving the highest honor at the iHeartRadio Music Awards. Everyone expected for her red carpet look to be jaw-dropping, but instead people scratched their heads. The dress she wore featured a turtleneck collar with a black and white pattern. The bodice of the dress was a sheer mesh around the halter-styled solid top underneath.
The dress then featured a multi-colored skirt that reminded us of the salsa dancing emoji, just with a few more colors in it. Together, the outfit did not flow. The skirt would have looked cute with a red crop top or if the skirt was black-based. This outfit looked randomly thrown together. Cabello wore her hair messily pulled back, which made this look incredibly too casual.
13 Hot: Evvie McKinney Looked Fierce Post-Appearance on The Four
Evvie McKinney is still relatively new to the scene, as she was just recently seen on the competition show The Four. She looked absolutely stunning on the red carpet of the 2018 awards show. She wore a black micro dress on the carpet. This black, long-sleeved dress had a high neckline that was accented by embellishments all the way down to the end of the skirt and three-quarters of the way down the long sleeves.
The embellishments were silver and gold and reminded us of Gatsby meets steampunk style. This micro dress was so detailed that it made it seem longer and more tasteful than some of the longer dresses we saw. McKinney wore black thigh-high boots with this outfit and a black clutch. Her hair was worn in long waves.
12 Not: Jackie Cruz' Outfit Was Star-Studded, Literally
Jackie Cruz does not make many red carpet appearances. This year, she showed up ready to make a statement on the iHeartRadio red carpet. From the front, the dress looked simple. It was a solid black dress. It featured a turtleneck and full-length sleeves. The dress hit her around mid-thigh. Right around each hip, a white design started to be noticeable from the front.
When looking at the dress from the side, it showed that there were star cut-outs on each side, although there was nude fabric keeping Cruz from being completely exposed. The bottom of each star went on to have metallic fringe that hung down to her shins. It was a very confusing look that Cruz paired with over-the-knee black boots. There was nothing star-like about this dress.
11 Hot: Sarah Hyland Put a Modern Spin On A LBD
Sarah Hyland was a presenter at the iHeartRadio Music Awards. Hyland chose to go with a classic look-the little black dress. The dress was a new take on a LBD. It featured a plunging neckline that was not accented by any jewelry. The dress had three-quarter length sleeves and also seemed to feature a wrap waist, as there was a triangular cut to the front of the dress, almost like a hi-lo.
The dress was all black sequins, catching the light in all the right ways. Hyland accessorized her LBD with black and silver strappy heels. Hyland let the dress do all the talking for her, wearing her hair back, simple jewelry and minimal makeup. She had a light smoky eye to correlate her makeup to the stunning vibe of her dress.
10 Not: Halsey Is Bad At The Carpet This Year
Halsey continues to release hit song after hit song while being a strong, powerful woman and icon for women's rights. She took to the red carpet in a head-turning look, but not necessarily for a good reason. She resembled Pebbles from The Flintstones. Her hair was tied up in a bun on top of her head.
The actual outfit consisted of two pieces-a crop top and a mini wrap skirt-in an animal print. It was a bit of a tiger/zebra print. There was a triangular cut in the middle of the bottom portion of the top, just covering her chest. The skirt was wrapped around her body and was threaded through a belt buckle to fasten it. She wore platform, peep-toe pumps and thick, black hoop earring to accessorize this animalistic look.
9 Hot: Laverne Cox Proved That Black Jumpsuits Are Better Than Orange
Laverne Cox looked absolutely stunning on this year's red carpet. Laverne proved that an orange jumpsuit is not all she should be known for. The Orange Is The New Black star wore a sleek, black jumpsuit on this year's red carpet. Speaking to this year's red carpet trend, Laverne had a mock turtleneck top/choker to start her jumpsuit off. The arm piece went over one shoulder, cutting down at a diagonal.
The jumpsuit featured a choker-matching belt at the waist that was then sewn down the outer seam of the pant leg. This was in a silver metallic arrow pattern, which added the little bit of glam that this outfit needed. Cox accessorized with black pointed-toe pumps, wavy hair and a bright pearly white smile.
8 Not: Ne-Yo Looked Ready For High School
Ne-Yo generally dresses timelessly, wearing fitted suits and accessorizing with timeless pieces. At this year's iHeartRadio Music Awards, the R&B star dressed incredibly casual compared to usual. The crooner wore black skinny jeans with bright white sneakers. He topped this look off with a white crew neck t-shirt. Over this, he wore a letterman jacket with the letter “W” on each side, so when he made the “okay” sign on the carpet, it looked like he was spelling wow.
Letterman jackets generally only have the letter on one side, making us wonder if “wow” was intentional. The jacket was about two inches shorter than his shirt, making him look a little messy. He also wore a wide-brimmed, black hat with this look, making it jock meets old school gangster. It was an overall confusing look.
7 Hot: Ashanti Brought The Bling Out To The Carpet
Ashanti was one of the biggest R&B stars of the '90s and early 2000s. Having her back on the red carpet gave us all the nostalgia feel. Ashanti came to show the newbies who is the boss of the red carpet. Ashanti wore a maroon-sequined pants suit. The oversized suit jacket was kept together with a satin belt.
Ashanti wore nothing under the top. The pants were wide-legged and long, so we could not see her shoes, but we are sure they were stunning. Ashanti accessorized her look with a fur scarf hung over her shoulder. It was a black fur with highlights of maroon through it. She also wore classic hoop earrings and large rings. She looked timeless and ageless all at once.
6 Not: Jojo Siwa Was A Little Too Pink
Jojo Siwa became known for her part on the reality show Dance Moms. Since leaving the show, Siwa has continued on to be a successful child star and entrepreneur. She has had music videos, television specials and her own clothing line. In typical Siwa form, the young celebrity wore a large bow on her head around the base of her ponytail. Unfortunately, that was the last part of the outfit that we liked.
Siwa wore a white printed blouse with a silver leather jacket over it. With that, she wore a pink skirt to match her newly highlighted pink hair. While the skirt was a reverse sparkle skirt, it looked like it had been stained prior to stepping out on the red carpet. She also wore pink sunglasses that were too large and square.
5 Hot: Paris Hilton Looked In The Mirror And Said That's Hot
A newly engaged Paris Hilton stepped out on the red carpet in a bright red mini-dress. This dress was fun and flirty, speaking to Paris' true inner fashionista. While there were transparent parts to the dress, it was done very tastefully. There were full-length sleeves with thick fishnetting, which gave the dress a chic vibe. The back of the dress was very playful.
There was an illusion open back with very fine mesh material on it. On the back was a Queen of Hearts style logo. Where the skirt of the dress began again, there were glittery hearts swirling, bringing attention to the derriere. The skirt of the dress also featured a fun flip that only a small petticoat could bring. With her signature blonde hair and red pumps, this look was fire!
4 Not: Iggy Azalea Was So Not Fancy
Iggy Azalea is known for her incredible rapping ability and her catchy songs. She has not been on the music scene for a little while. When she showed up to the iHeartRadio red carpet, fans were surprised by her appearance there. Azalea wore a full-length asymmetric gown to this red carpet appearance.
The black body of the dress only made up one-half of the dress, starting as a thick tank top style on her right shoulder and continuing to the ground, although there was a floor to hip slit on her left side. The right arm was finished off with a sparkly mesh long sleeve. On her left side, it looked like the same material turned into a bikini top. It was an odd design that would be hard for anyone to pull off.
3 Hot: Isla Fisher Was On Fire
Isla Fisher is a fantastic actress who always looks flawless. The iHeartRadio Awards was no exception to her fantastic fashion track record. This beautiful redhead wore a stunning mini-dress. There was a deep, narrow V in the front of the dress that cut right at the bottom of her cleavage. The black-based dress had gold metallic patterning throughout. The pattern reminded us of a form of camouflage.
The long sleeves on this dress kept the dress feeling a little elegant regardless of the length and the cut of the cleavage. Fisher accessorized this dress with a gold clutch and black, pointed-toe pumps. She kept both her hair and makeup simple, but stunning enough to allow for the shine of the dress to take over the camera.
2 Not: CNCO Looked Incomplete All Together
CNCO is known for being a five-member band. When they appeared on the red carpet, their fans were incredibly excited. Generally, bands and artists who attend an event with one another try to match their outfits, even if it is just one element of the outfit. Every member of this band looked completely different. One member wore a printed, baggy black and brown suit. Another wore a navy blue wedding-style suit.
Some of the members wore leather jackets while others wore a variety of different patterns and styles that all clashed. We wish they had picked one color scheme to stick to or one statement piece for each of them to wear with their own spin on it. This was not a cohesive look.
1 Honorable Mention: Cardi B Out Here Livin' Her Best Life
Cardi B has taken the music industry by storm in the last year. With her outrageous antics, her amazing Instagram, and her pretty tolerable music, she's definitely a force to be reckoned with. Originally, it looked like Cardi was just going to ride her 15 minutes and be done with it, but after cleaning up at the 2018 iHeart Music Awards, she may be here to stay! In her acceptance speech she thanked her loved ones, but most of all, she thanked her haters who keep downloading her music to make fun of it. If that's not the inspiration you need to get through the day we don't know what is. Her youthful charm was illustrated with her ballet tutu-like dress. It was light and fun, just as the night way, and just as Cardi B is… light and fun!
