20 Things To Know About Channing Tatum's New Girl
We're not happy to admit it, but Channing Tatum has found himself a new love interest. It's hard for fans to picture him with anyone else than his former wife Jenna Dewan. But life must go on and since the two have decided to divorce, seeing them both date other people was bound to happen.
Of course, it happened sooner than we had expected. After all, it's only been six months since Jenna and Channing announced their split, but like with most divorces, the relationship was likely dead a long time ago.
Tatum has recently started dating singer-songwriter Jessie J. We have to say that there is a bit of resemblance to his ex-wife, but we'll pretend we don't notice. Besides, she's an amazing gal, so we really can't blame him.
It's a bummer that Channing is off the market. Still, we are excited for Tatum and his newfound love, but we don't know much about their relationship or Jessie J herself. The relationship appears to be in the early stages, so it's too soon to tell if he's going to start calling her his “girlfriend.” But in the meantime, check out these 20 things to know about Channing Tatum's new girl.
20 Jenna Is Not Surprised
A lot of Channing's fans were surprised that he found love again already, but as we said before, we don't know how his marriage really ended and it may have been dead a long time ago.
You can't fault a guy if he's ready to move on with his life.
Jenna, however, wasn't a bit surprised by the news. "Jenna knew that Channing was dating and it wasn't a surprise," a source told E!. "A friend had told her what was going on." Apparently, Dewan "doesn't really care what Channing does as long as he's being there for [their daughter] Everly. Jenna's dating too and they are both moving on with their lives."
19 She Started Her Career At 11
Jessie J was born and raised in London and actually started her career on stage at the tender age of 11. Her first stage performance was in the West End musical Whistle Down the Wind. She's had a pretty impressive beginning to her career as she studied at the BRIT school right before signing on with Gut Records. She got herself a songwriting deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing where she is slamming out songs for singers such as Miley Cyrus and Chris Brown. Of course, she's used her own vocals to rock out, too, with hits like "Domino" and "Calling All Hearts."
18 18 Wasn't A Great Year For Her
Although we see Jessie as a feminine icon for both power and beauty, this poor girl has been put through the ringer health-wise since a young age. At the age of 11, she was first diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome.
When Jessie was 18 years old she suffered her first stroke, which must have been a strange and painful experience for such a young girl.
Despite her health scares, though, she forged ahead to create the career of her dreams. After all her health struggles, she became the “first female British singer to have six Top 10 singles from a single album.”
17 She Has Her Own Struggles
Jessie J does not like the dark, and she experienced that one time on stage and it resulted in a panic attack. In 2011 she was forced to perform in the dark and it didn't go over very well. "I did a gig recently and had a panic attack on stage," she told NOW. "The night was called 'Black Out' and I had to perform in the dark. I asked them to turn on the lights and they didn't. I was onstage in pitch black and, because I couldn't see anything, I started to panic. It was awful."
16 Party In The USA Paid Her Rent
Any Miley Cyrus fan knows that "Party in the USA" was a huge hit. The song, which Miley Cyrus performed, came from Jessie J and it was a pretty big opportunity for her; selling the song allowed her to pay her rent for three years.
Suffice it to say, it was a pretty big paycheck for the singer.
"'Party in the USA' paid my rent for, like, three years. Actually, it was longer than that. That's where I get most of my money. I write songs. I'm a singer. I love doing endorsements and stuff, but that's all added on," reported ABC News.
15 Why Channing Likes Her So Much
One thing is for sure, Channing likes his new girl and he's not afraid to tell everyone. An insider told Entertainment Tonight that, “Channing and Jessie's relationship is very new. They truly just hit it off.” How cute is this photo?
Unfortunately, there are not many pictures of the two of them together, probably because Jessie J is currently on tour.
“It's only been six months since Channing and Jenna separated… Channing really likes Jessie.” Insiders say that losing his marriage was hard on Channing and that moving on was a huge step. “Channing and Jenna truly planned to be together forever.”
14 She Has A Hard Time Sometimes
When we look at celebrities, we assume that they all have it together, but every career has its struggles. And as Jessie shows us, being famous is no different. Did you know that being a famous singer isn't all glitz and glamor? Jessie says, “And that's the kind of thing people think, you know, that if you sign up to be a singer-songwriter you know how to deal with people setting up hate websites, or people being obsessed with you and crying when you touch them, but you don't, and you just have to deal with.”
13 Justin Timberlake Is A Huge Fan Of Hers
Who doesn't love friends in high places? Jessie J clearly has a fan in Justin Timberlake, and we can think of worse scenarios. The two have their connection in the industry as well, sharing the charts at times and filling the same genres. Before she found the fame that she now has, J met Timberlake and he described her as "the best singer in the world right now.” Wow, talk about a huge compliment. That's amazing, especially coming from the "Sexy Back" singer who keeps on bringing back hits even as he's settled down and started a family.
12 She Tried To Get Rihanna To Sing Her Song
As a singer-songwriter, it is the goal in your career to get top musicians to sing your music. Jessie J doesn't seem to have a problem getting big names to sing her songs, though.
Not only have Chris Brown and Miley Cyrus picked up her tracks, but she's collaborated with James Morrison, David Guetta, and US rapper B.O.B, too.
And originally, she wanted Rihanna to sing her song Do It Like A Dude but the big shots at Island records convinced her to take the song for herself. And we can't say we're disappointed with the outcome, although the gals would make a great duo for another song!
11 Channing And Jessie Love Mini Golf
The fresh couple has recently been seen playing mini golf together. Channing has also been seen out in the audience of Jessie's concerts in places like Salt Lake City. One Twitter fan commented on seeing the two playing golf. “Lol they were nice. Jessie came down and I was shook and then when I went to get them to play, Channing turned around and I was like… ! We hugged and got a pic." Show us the pic or it didn't happen! Channing and Jessie two originally met in 2015 when she presented him with an award for Magic Mike at the MTV Movie Awards.
10 The Meaning Behind Her Songs
It's not surprising, though; a lot of songwriters are writing from experience, and that's typically why some of the songs are so powerful. On her debut album, "Who You Are" is based on some situations that Jessie found herself in. Jessie J experienced the death of a friend while in a hospital ward and wrote "Big White Room" about it. She has a lot of experience that she wants to share with the world. “I want young people to know that they can belong - whatever your culture, your religion, your sexuality - that you can live life how you want to live it and feel comfortable how you are.”
9 She Was Never Good In School
There have been many situations in which an artist will state that they had difficulty in school.
Jessie J is one girl that has made the bold statement that she was "never really that good at anything."
She said, "At school, they were like 'oh, you're a Cornish girl' and they kind of expected me to be the same as my sisters. Give me something to draw or an outfit to pick for someone, or hair, make-up, acting, write a song, I'm fine with it, but anything to do with sums - it was never my thing." Fortunately, music is definitely her "thing."
8 Her Music Video Went Viral
The best thing that a songwriter can hope for is for her music to go viral. The music video for her song "Price Tag" ended up being the 22nd most viewed video of all time, which is obviously a huge accomplishment for Jessie. Due to the success of that song, she ended up with 148 million views on YouTube and Vevo. And it's likely due to her confidence in herself that she is so successful. She doesn't give up on her dreams; “I think the best way to have confidence is not to allow everyone else's insecurities to be your own.”
7 She Loves To Dance
Jessie reportedly loves to dance, which is always a great thing for someone who has to perform on stage. But not every singer is also a dancer.
Of course, Jessie J doesn't hesitate when it comes to being the first one out there showing off her moves.
“I have always been the first on the dance floor. Before fame, people thought it made me a good laugh; now, people point and call me an attention seeker! I'm very aware of the way people can view me, but I'm very aware that I have to just enjoy my life.”
6 She Performed At Buckingham Palace
It's got to be a pretty big honor to be able to perform music for the Queen, but you'll have to ask Jessie about that. Jessie J had the opportunity to perform at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Concert outside Buckingham Palace in June of 2012. She also had the honor of performing during the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in London in August of 2012. Of course, you know you are doing something right when you are asked to perform at important events. But we bet the fact that Jessie is a London native helped her cause!
5 She's An Advocate Against Bullying
Unfortunately, we all know that bullying is still such a huge issue in society today and it seems to be only getting worse.
Jessie J has a big heart when it comes to this issue, and she's not shy about sharing her opinions, either.
“Children used to get bullied at school. Now they go home, and that's where the problem starts - because they sit on their phones all night, thinking about who's 'liked' a photo of them, who hates them, who loves them. They don't know what's real and what's not, editing their lives constantly to fit other people's views.”
4 She Is Critical Of Her Own Work
When it comes to our passions in life, it's okay to be protective of them or want to work hard to achieve your dreams. In this case, Jessie J had to make sure she worked hard to get to where she is now.
In addition to writing songs for others, she also writes her own lyrics.
But of the creative process, she says; “I'm so hard on myself that when I'm in the studio, I'll write 10 songs and only use one. So those nine songs that are left over, I always think, 'Where could these go? Who could they be for?'”
3 She Believes In Being Original
In Hollywood, you can't expect to be like everyone else and make it big. You have to have your own magic in order to make a difference. And if Jessie's collaboration with Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj ("Bang Bang") was any indication, Jessie's not shy about her skills. “I think being nice and being safe is unfair to yourself when you have big dreams as a woman. I think you have to prepare yourself that not everyone in this world has the same personality… The one thing I've chosen to be great at in my life is singing - so why not be proud that I'm great at it?”
2 She Believes In Action
When it comes to her dreams, Jessie believes that she needs to do the work and then be grateful for it.
And she has plenty of advice for her fans and critics alike.
“Infuse your life with action. Don't wait for it to happen. Make it happen. Make your own future. Make your own hope. Make your own love. And whatever your beliefs, honor your creator, not by passively waiting for grace to come down from upon high, but by doing what you can to make grace happen… yourself, right now, right down here on Earth.”
1 She's Not A Party Animal
You might think that the fact that she loves to pole dance in her home or that she's out doing big concerts mean that Jessie likes to party, but that's just not the case. “I like my life to be pure and clean and organized, and I like to have had eight hours' sleep a night. I honestly don't think I'd be as successful if I was a party animal. Because I don't think my personality would be as focused and open as it is.” Sounds good to us, and probably to Channing too, if the pair's love of mini golf is any indication of their low-key interests.
