We are nearing the end of 2017, kids! We have almost survived another 12 months of exciting headlines, celebrity births and deaths (RIP), memorable events, and more! With all of these things comes a whole slew of celebrity successes and failures, crazy headline-worthy celebrity drama, and-- of course-- stars that completely fell from grace.
So many actors and actresses, singers, dancers, entrepreneurs, chefs, and more, work hard on their rise to fame. But once you get to the top, there are a number of stressors to deal with, not to mention those things that us regular people work hard to combat everyday. Some celebrities can't handle the hardships of being famous and they fall just as hard as they rose, and in this day and age, with the media as significant and overpowering as it is, rock bottom now has a lot of different meanings.
Below we review the classic meltdowns, the new casualties of fame, the completely ridiculous catastrophes, and utterly insane habits of those celebrities that couldn't keep it together and hit rock bottom-- hard!
20 Kevin Hart: You Got Caught
Kevin Hart is famous for his comedic movies with other megawatt stars, including Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson in the movie, Central Intelligence, and Will Ferrell and the prison-focused movie, Get Hard. But in mid-September, drama came knocking. Hart took to Instagram to post a weird video, discussing how he put himself in a bad situation where something happened and that he somehow hurt the people most important to him. Many fans were confused, not sure of what he was really talking about. Soon after, a woman claimed that she had evidence of the two of them partaking in adultery behaviors and planned to go after him financially. Before long, the story exploded, with this woman stating she was a victim who unknowingly was recorded on camera in Hart's hotel room in Las Vegas. From there, Hart's ex-wife and current wife had words on Instagram regarding his unfaithful habits. In recent weeks, we have heard little about these incidents, however, Kevin Hart's career could be affected in years to come depending on the outcome of this drama.
19 Aaron Carter: Back to Rehab
Not even 30 years old and Aaron Carter has been through a lot. After countless hits like 'I Want Candy' and 'Aaron's Party (Come Get It)', he became the classic example of what happens when fame hits too young. Just this summer, he began a downward spiral that landed him in rehab to work on his overall health and wellness. It started when he was arrested for possession of marijuana, as well as driving under the influence. Then, in August, he came out as bisexual, and was soon single once again after a split from then-girlfriend Madison Parker. In September, he was in a bad car accident, with sources stating they had to check on him at least four times at his Florida home for fear of his safety. Not long after, he checked into rehab as stated above, and is still there as of today. Here's to hoping his fall from grace has a happy ending.
18 Harvey Weinstein: The Famous Producer and His Road to Rehab
Harvey Weinstein, the famous producer and studio executive who co-founded Miramax, and later The Weinstein Company, has now been accused of numerous allegations of assault andforcing himself onto othersin the last few weeks. Stars like Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, and more have come forward with stories about Weinstein in uncomfortable situations, crossing physical boundaries and even threatening their careers.
The several accounts of his terribly inappropriate behavior have caused other stars to come forward with stories of assault within the field, as well as movements like the #MeToo campaign on Twitter and Instagram. Rumors speculate that Weinstein believes he can come back from the mistakes he has made, but I think this is one instance where rock bottom means rock bottom-- and this is something that Weinstein will certainly not come back from.
17 Britney Spears: The Ultimate Celeb Meltdown
Britney Spears put celebrity meltdowns on the map! It started in 2006 with a series of cringeworthy moments that the whole world witnessed. Do you ever watch something and continue to flinch, but just can't look away? Yeah, that was all of us watching while Britney got married, divorced, married, and divorced again. One night in early 2007, she infamously shaved her head. She was in and out of rehab for months after this. The culmination of this terrible behavior was when police arrived at her home in 2008 to find her intoxicated with her two young children present. She lost custody temporarily. Lucky for her (and for us), she eventually came to her senses and, the following year, she released Circus. Now, she has a residency in Las Vegas and has proved to the world, anyone can rise from the ashes of their public meltdowns.
16 Miley Cyrus: Hannah Montana Goes Rogue
As most of us know, Miley Cyrus is the famous daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus, who rose to fame in the 1990s with his country single, 'Achy Breaky Heart'. Miley quickly made a name for herself playing Hannah Montana. After this show ended, she made a few movies and fell in love with Liam Hemsworth in front of the world. But, in the summer of 2013, Miley cut and bleached her hair. Usually this isn't a big deal, celebrities are always changing their hair! But then, she came out to perform her new song, 'We Can't Stop' with Robin Thicke at the 2013 Video Music Awards. She wore skimpy clothes and twerked, gyrated, and grinded on Thicke very inappropriately, tongue out and foam finger flying. Her and Hemsworth broke up and she became an outspoken activist for weed-- and lots of it! She recently told James Corden in an interview, however, that she wasn't high during that performance, that it simply is just how insane she is. Well, okay then Miley! Thank goodness this phase seems to be over for her, too.
15 Drew Barrymore: The Starlet's Fall From Grace… And How She Regained Her Wings
This one slays me! Our beloved Drew Barrymore is now a successful actress, entrepreneur, and mother, but she was another fallen star due to early fame as a child. Her parents' divorce at the age of 9 severely affected her well-being. She became very famous after her role in 'E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial', but before long, she was into substance abuse and had to enter rehab at the young age of 14. She continued to make headlines into her 20s, with short-lived marriages, nude 'Playboy' photo shoots, and an incident in which she exposed herself on live television. Lucky for her, the movie roles continued to come, and she solidified her place in Hollywood in the early 2000s. Now, those troubled years are long behind her, but when we discuss stars who fell from grace, we will always think of Barrymore and her difficult early years.
14 Nicholas Brendon: Buffy's Sidekick Gets Arrested, Again
Is anyone seeing a pattern here? Celebrities who rose to fame early on in their lives just can't seem to keep it together as adults. Nicholas Brendon is unfortunately no different. He was popular in the early 2000s as Buffy's sidekick, Xander Harris, in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He's been arrested for multiple times, usually having to do with domestic violence. He has been in rehab twice to treat alcohol and substance abuse issues, as well as depression. Clearly neither time was successful because last week Brendon was arrested again for a domestic dispute, allegedly pulling a woman's hair and arm during a verbal altercation. For Brendon, there doesn't seem to be a rise back up the proverbial rope to stardom again. If only Buffy had a reboot or sequel like most famous shows have, maybe Brendon could have gotten back on the right path-- but probably not.
13 Gavin Rossdale: Who Cheats on Gwen Stefani?
Gavin, Gavin, Gavin… Blake Shelton has two words for you: thank you! Gavin was a famous rockstar, playing in bands like Bush and Institute, until branching out into a solo career in the late 2010s. However, his real fame came from being the spouse to Gwen Stefani of No Doubt from 2002 to 2015. They filed for divorce in August 2015, citing irreconcilable differences, according to E! News. Then, a few months later, reports started surfacing that Rossdale cheated on Stefani with the nanny. Some sources even say she found out while surfing their iPad because his messages were connected to it. Even though Rossdale denied these allegations, we haven't heard anything from him since, with other rumors speculating that he even had secret male lovers. Now, he is with girlfriend Sophia Thomalla and Stefani is happily dating Shelton.
12 Katy Perry: Miley Cyrus 2.0
Katy Perry rose to fame in her early 20s with her first hit single, 'I Kissed A Girl'. Although controversial, the hit song put her on the fast track to celebrity status. She went on to voice hits like 'Firework', 'Teenage Dreams', and 'Roar'. She even got the NFL Superbowl halftime show gig in February 2015! However, earlier this year, she began acting erratically and even cut off her hair a la Miley Cyrus. She claims it was because her hair was unhealthy due to all the bleaching she had done to keep it blonde. We also learned earlier this year that her and longtime boyfriend, Orlando Bloom, had split. Many speculated she was headed for a downward spiral with claims that Bloom cheated. However, Perry tweeted, in all caps, about how she cut her hair but she is 'totally fine'. And I feel like if someone has to tell you they're fine, they probably are not fine. However, even though we all thought she was going down the same path as Cyrus, Perry bounced back with a new album and hit single, 'Chained to the Rhythm', and is seemingly all well and fine.
11 Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi: Hot Mess Express
Who could forget Snooki's train wreck rise to fame on Jersey Shore on MTV? Born and raised in upstate New York, Nicole Polizzi, also known as Snooki, graced our television screens for 4 years. We watched the popularity of Jersey Shore explode quickly and it coined now-famous terms like 'GTL (Gym, Tan, Laundry)', among others. But, almost as soon as it began, Snooki took advantage of her fame, often drinking in excess, partying frequently, and getting arrested for a variety of things, usually disorderly conduct while filming. She went on to star in another reality show with Jennifer 'JWoww' Farley, another Jersey Shore cast member. After this, Snooki worked her way back up the proverbial rope, leaving rock bottom with a published book and the birth of her son. Currently, her and the rest of the Jersey Shore cast had a special reunion on E! in August, and it seems like her crazy partying days are definitely behind her, but we will always remember her for her partying ways and ridiculous quotes while drunk.
10 Lindsay Lohan: Former Child Star Loses Her Wings
You can't talk about stars falling from grace without talking about Lindsay Lohan. I still can't watch 'The Parent Trap' without thinking of the terrible path its' big star headed down so suddenly. In 2006, the famous child star was admitted to the hospital for dehydration and exhaustion. This happens to many people that work hard and tend not to take a break, so this didn't concern the public as much as it maybe should have. The following year, however, a lot of rumors started swirling about her terribly unprofessional work habits, including her spoiled princess ways on set, as well as her late arrivals. Her partying ways didn't stop there though, despite her behavior going public. A few months later she was arrested for drunk driving and headed to rehab for the second time. Still, it didn't work, as she was arrested for drug possession.
With a whole slew of court dates and arrests, I think it is safe to say Lohan hit rock bottom for a long period of time. Thankfully, since 2013, she has done her best to stay out of the spotlight, with a few inappropriate tweets and Instagram/Snapchat stories that are usually deleted. But all of these incidents most definitely affected her once-perfect career.
9 Scott Disick: What Is He Famous For?
Seriously, like what is Scott Disick's job? Is he only famous because he dated Kourtney Kardashian and had children with her? The on-again, off-again couple have three children together, often splitting due to Scott's alcohol abuse issues. In late 2013, both of Scott's parents unexpectedly pass away within three months of each other. Yet another reason to spiral out of control, Disick goes back to his old partying and drinking habits until he checks into rehab in the spring of 2015. It doesn't work, though, and for the next year Disick goes on a partying binge with ex-girlfriends and several models.
Scott and Kourtney get back together for a brief time before his behavior turns promiscuous again, as he is caught cozying up to models in Miami in early 2017. Now, Kardashian and Disick are strictly co-parents and nothing more, leading to another bout of partying and dating for him. He is currently linked to Bella Thorne, Sophia Richie, and more. But, without his connection to the Kardashians completely solid, Disick is pretty much unimportant now. Let's see where his promiscuity takes him this time.
8 Robin Thicke: How He Publicly Ruined His Marriage
Robin Thicke has always been somewhat famous, being that he is the son of the now-deceased but beloved actor, Alan Thicke. In 2005, he married his high school sweetheart, Paula Patton, an actress and the mother of his son, Julian. They seemed happy and very much in love. But, with the release of his hit single, 'Blurred Lines' coupled with his raunchy performance with Miley Cyrus at the 2013 Video Music Awards (ya know, foam fingers and twerking), his fame caught up with him. His partying got out of control and, as you can clearly see above, he got caught inappropriately touching a woman that was not his wife. They officially separated and divorced in 2014, even though he tried desperately to win her back, releasing a whole album titled 'Paula' with songs about her. It was not enough, though, not even for his fans! The album was such a flop he had to cancel shows due to a complete lack of ticket sales. Since then, we haven't heard much from Thicke, except for a few public statements regarding the death of his father.
7 Orlando Brown: That's So Raven Star Full of Threats and Arrests
Does anybody really remember Orlando Brown? He was made famous by his sidekick stint on 'That's So Raven', playing Eddie Thomas to Raven Symone's main character, Raven Baxter, from 2003-2007. Not having many other successful runs as an actor, he was first arrested in the summer of 2014 for allegedly threatening to kill a woman and her child. Due to insufficient evidence, no charges were filed. Then, Brown got arrested in January 2016 for hitting a woman, possession, and resisting arrest, a combination of felonies and misdemeanors. As most stars do (albeit shouldn't do), Brown took to Instagram to go on a rant about the allegedly false allegations against him. Other than a small role in the movie, 'Straight Outta Compton', Brown has otherwise been out of the spotlight, most likely thanks to the erratic and terrible behavior of the last few years.
6 Jodie Sweetin: From Full House to Full-on Lewdness
Stephanie, say it ain't so! The picture above shows a much different look than we know of Jodie Sweetin from the 1990s. But, again, it's just another case of what fame can do to someone who had everything handed to them at a young age. Sweetin played Stephanie Tanner in the hit TV show, 'Full House'. Sweetin began a downward spiral that she chronicled in her published book, unSweetined. She talks about how 'bored' she was after the show ended, turning to alcohol abuse. She looked like she was on her way back to the top when she appeared on Dancing with the Stars. Then, with the new hit show 'Fuller House', Sweetin seemed happier than ever.
However, earlier this summer, there was drama with her fiancé, Justin Hodak, with a joint statement released that stated they had broken up. Just a few days after they announced their split, Hodak was arrested for violating the restraining order Sweetin had against him. He threatened to commit suicide during a dispute between the two of them, so Sweetin called the cops for fear of her life. This incident was back in March and, luckily, we have heard little about any more drama for Sweetin since.
5 Paris Hilton: Famous Heiress Couldn't Stop Partying
Paris Hilton can be filed into the same category as Lindsay Lohan due to her constant need to party and really bad luck behind the wheel-- and behind bars. She rose to fame as the famous Hilton heiress and then burst onto the scene with her reality show, 'The Simple Life', with Nicole Richie. But then, in the fall of 2006, she was arrested for driving under the influence and sentenced to a little over a month in jail. Lucky for her, the sentence was trimmed to just 23 days for good behavior. A few months after her sentence, Hilton was arrested for possession of cocaine in Las Vegas. She tried to make a comeback after living out her recklessness in the public eye with another reality show, 'The World According to Paris', but the show was ultimately unsuccessful. Since then, she has released perfume lines, worked on movies, and published books, but we will always remember Paris and her lack of control no matter how far she climbs, or tries to climb, back up to the top.
4 Justin Bieber: Banned from China for Bad Behavior
Justin Bieber became famous incredibly young, being found on YouTube with his perfect pipes and singing skills. Children who do not get a chance to be, well, children, tend to go a little crazy at some point in their lives. For Bieber, it was no different. For a long time, he seemed to get away with a lot of things. In 2010 and 2011, he is pulled over a few times for minor traffic issues. In 2012, while out with his then-girlfriend, famous singer Selena Gomez, he gets into a physical altercation with a paparazzo, but the charges filed against him are later dismissed. On top of more traffic violations in 2013, he splits from Gomez, and starts to really go off the deep end, with pictures of Bieber surrounded by drugs surfacing online.
Continuing with weird and erratic behavior, he showed up late to shows, went on twitter rants, spit on neighbors, and inappropriately touched female fans in Vienna, getting banned from a nightclub as a result. After a lot of bad behavior in other countries like Brazil and Australia, Bieber is arrested in Miami due to driving under the influence and drag racing in 2014. The latest drama surrounding the famous 'Sorry' singer is his complete ban from even entering China for bad and inappropriate behavior, which occurred just this summer. It seems as if very little can hold him back, though, and I have a feeling this downward spiral isn't over just yet.
3 Amanda Bynes: The Amanda Show is Cancelled-- Forever
Amanda please! Yet another child star who just can't seem to control herself as an adult. Famous for movies like 'What A Girl Wants' and 'She's the Man', Bynes was the perfect example of an all-American girl, even starring alongside Jennie Garth in 'What I Like About You'. I mean, she was just so lovable and relatable! In the summer of 2010, Bynes decided to retire from acting. Even though she retracted her statement (via Twitter), she still has yet to have any acting gigs since. Bynes was arrested for driving under the influence after hitting a police car in early 2012. This happened a few more times that year, with Bynes continuing to deny it through randomly odd and cryptic tweets.
In the summer of 2013, after being in and out of court for throwing a bong out of a New York City apartment window, she is put on a psychiatric involuntary hold after starting a fire in a neighbor's driveway back on the west coast in Los Angeles. Her parents were finally granted conservatorship over her affairs in late 2013. Since then, Bynes has yet to return to the spotlight. She is believed to be living in Los Angeles still.
2 Nene Leakes: A Real Housewife of Drama
Nene Leakes entered Hollywood radar as a Real Housewife of Atlanta back in 2008. We are given a glimpse into her intimate and personal life, including her tumultuous and rocky marriage and her ups and downs with her friends. But the moment she hit rock bottom was earlier this month when Brielle Biermann, the daughter of Kim Zolciak-Biermann (Nene's co-star on the Real Housewives for many seasons), uploaded a Snapchat video in Nene's bathroom. She was complaining about the mirror being too low to the ground for a selfie picture, but inadvertently captured a large bug crawling across the floor. Fans went crazy saying it looked like a cockroach, with Leakes firing back on Instagram stating the bug must have fallen out of Brielle's, ahem, private area. She then claimed it was a racist issue, which is when Zolciak-Biermann had to step in to defend her daughter. All is well now between the three of them, with Leakes issuing an apology, but things will surely never be the same after the crude things she said. Rock bottom looks a lot like embarrassment in this case.
1 Ozzy Osborne: How Addiction (Almost) Ruined His Marriage
The Osborne family found a way to stay in the spotlight for most of the 2000s with their hit MTV reality show. After it ended in 2005, not a lot was mentioned of the Osborne family until last summer when Ozzy and Sharon Osborne split after news of an affair on Ozzy's behalf went public. He explained the affair with the admittance of an addiction to sex and entered rehab in the summer of 2016. The couple also took to therapy as a way of coping and eventually got back together after Sharon momentarily kicked him out. It looks like this rock bottom story had a happy ending, but I'm sure it was not without a lot of hard work and forgiveness for many people involved.
