20 It Was Love At First Sight For Emily
Emily Blunt was loving the single life and she even told her friends exactly that, but everything changed when John Krasinski suddenly walked into the same restaurant where she was dining with a friend. Elle reports her telling Seth Meyers on his show,
"My friend goes, 'Oh my god, there's my friend John.' And that was it."
She adds, "It's cinema gold. He was actually sitting with our friend Justin Theroux. He abandoned Justin and came over to talk to us. He did not eat, he just stood there and made me laugh."
She was asked whether she knew right away that he was the one. "I kind of did," she say. Awww.
19 She Had A Problem With Stuttering
Emily Blunt has talked in interviews about how she decided to get into acting to help her with stuttering. It's actually something that has affected a lot of actors in Hollywood.
“I used to do a lot of funny voices and funny accents because I could speak more fluently if I didn't sound like me,” Blunt said to People. “It still comes back and flares if I'm really tired, or when I was pregnant, it was really prominent again.”
Actors like Marilyn Monroe and Bruce Willis have experienced problems with stuttering, too. It's amazing that she started a career out of something that tried to inhibit her.
18 She Keeps Turning Down Romantic Comedies
Emily Blunt has stated that she and John Krasinski have been offered numerous romantic comedies, probably because they have such a cute relationship. But they aren't interested in going down that road.
"We've sort've been offered every romantic comedy under the sun," she told Harper's Bazaar. "But no one wants to see John and I kind of meeting in a film. Like, people wouldn't buy it."
We definitely love the real-life love story that they have and think it would be magic on the silver screen! They were so great in A Quiet Place, so a romcom would be interesting.
17 Stanley Tucci Is Her Brother-In-Law
Stanley Tucci was Emily's co-star in the movie The Devil Wears Prada but he's also her brother-in-law, as Vogue reports. How did this happen, you ask? Well, when Emily Blunt got married to John eight years ago, she invited Stanley Tucci to a gathering and that was where he met her sister! The two started dating and the rest is history. They now have two children together and it's just the most perfect thing.
Sometimes we just never know how two people will come together. It's a great story.
16 When She Was Young, She Couldn't Speak At All
Not only did she have problems with stuttering but Emily also had a speech impediment that was so severe that she didn't speak at all. She told W magazine, as Vogue reports,
“I was a smart kid, and had a lot to say, but I just couldn't say it. It would just haunt me. I never thought I'd be able to sit and talk to someone like I'm talking to you right now.” She adds, “I'd try to push the words out, but it was frustrating. My parents took me to speech coaches and relaxation coaches. It didn't work.”
That was when a school teacher suggested to Emily that she act in a play.
15 She Has Two Children With John
Emily Blunt has two little girls with her husband and they couldn't be cuter. We don't see a lot of them because the couple doesn't want their children in the public eye. Interestingly, Emily said that she lost some of her confidence when she had children, specifically when it came to taking on dangerous action roles.
"I didn't have children when I did Edge Of Tomorrow, so I was just more gung-ho. I think when you have children you lose your confidence. I remember my mum always saying that to me and it's so true,” she told Belfast Telegraph.
14 Her First Major Role Was In Devil Wears Prada
Emily Blunt has been in the industry for quite a long time but it was the Devil Wears Prada movie that really made people take notice of her acting skills. From there it seemed as if her career just skyrocketed.
She admitted in an interview with Elle that actress Meryl Streep didn't base her Devil Wears Prada character on Vogue editor, Anna Winter, even though rumours hinted at that. Emily said,
“Although Meryl didn't actually base it on Anna Wintour-well, she told Anna that. She based it on two men in Hollywood that she knew-who will remain nameless, but I know who they are.”
13 She Was Offered A Recording Contract
There is so much that we don't know about Emily Blunt. For example, who would have thought that the girl had a set of pipes on her? So much so that she was offered a record contract!
When she was studying at Hurtwood House School in Surrey she was offered a music deal.
“It was just pop,” she told GQ. “The night before we were about to sign a deal, I just knew it wasn't right and it wasn't what I wanted to do, and I very unprofessionally pulled out at the last minute and upset everyone. I felt I wouldn't be taken seriously as an actress if I was up on a stage bumping and grinding.”
12 She Was The Only Option For Mary Poppins
When it came to finding someone to play Mary Poppins, there was no other option but Emily Blunt. That was how director Rob Marshall felt about it.
“Rob [Marshall] basically said, 'If you don't want to do this with us, we are going to find something else, because we won't do it if you don't want to,'” Emily told Vogue.
Marshall confirmed the story was true, saying, “For me, there was no one else but Emily… There wasn't even a possible other choice. She's rare in this world because she's incredibly warm and funny, and has a great deal of vulnerability as well. And at the same time, she's British and can sing and dance.”
11 Anna Wintour Allowed Her To Take Over Her Job
Recently, Anna Wintour went out of town for a week and handed her job over to Emily Blunt for the time, as MSN reports. That must be hard for a woman like Anna to do but she clearly trusted Emily to do a proper job. There is a cute video of Emily at Vogue as she talks about fashion, Stanley Tucci and how Wintour is a little bit like Miranda Priestley.
It's fun to see Emily in the magazine environment, especially since she was in The Devil Wears Prada movie. She received a call from Wintour and it was all just a little too awesome for words!
10 She Binge-Watched The Office
Before she met John Krasinski, Emily had binge-watched the UK version of The Office and then eventually watched the American version that starred her future husband. It's because of her love for the TV show that she recognised John Krasinski when she first met him in the restaurant.
"I was sort of aware that he was vaguely recognizable," she joked to Harper's Bazaar. We think it's pretty cool how couples in Hollywood end up meeting and getting together. While she was watching The Office, she had no idea that “Jim” would be her future husband. How cute is that?
9 She Was Once In A Relationship With Michael Bublé
It's hard to think that far back, but there was a time where Emily Blunt was in a long-term relationship with singer Michael Bublé. He even wrote a song about her! The two dated between 2005 and 2008 before they broke up.
At the time they were dating, Bublé wrote a song called Everything that's inspired by Emily. She also sang with him on the song, Me and Mrs. Jones, which features on his album Call Me Irresponsible.
There were rumours that he stepped out on her and when Howard Stern asked her about it, she told him, "I don't know, it's complicated,” as USA Today reports.
8 She Had To Look The Part For Devil Wears Prada
Emily's role in The Devil Wears Prada required her to look the part of a girl who dressed like a fashion icon and watched everything that she ate. Both she and the other actresses were asked to watch what they ate while filming because they had to look like supermodels.
When asked about a possible Devil Wears Prada sequel, Emily told Vanity Fair she'd be keen on being in it- even with the "skinny diets" she had to follow in the first movie. We'd be so happy to see a sequel happen!
7 John Thinks She's Out Of His League
John Krasinski is a great guy but there are a lot of people who think Emily Blunt is way out of his league and John is one of them. He told a funny story to Jimmy Fallon about how he was visiting Emily Blunt in London where she was filming Mary Poppins Returns and got stopped by a customs agent at the airport. As Complex reports, the agent asked who John was visiting, and John said he was visiting his wife. He continues the story:
"And [the custom agent] says, 'Is she an actress?' I said, 'Yeah.' He said, 'Would I know her?' I went, 'I don't know, man. Her name's Emily Blunt.' He goes like this, he goes, 'You?' And I went, 'Yeah,' and he goes, 'You? You married Emily Blunt?' And I go, 'Yeah.' And he goes like this, 'Okay go. Just go.'"
6 She Doesn't Believe In Long Engagements
Emily Blunt is a firm believer that if two people are in love then there is no reason to have a long engagement. She believes that it's a sign that something may be wrong in the relationship. If you are in love you should get married, end of story. Friday Moviez reports her saying,
“Personally, I'm an advocate for short engagements. Long sometimes means there is a reason for it. Two years engaged and no wedding… I'd be upset.”
It's a good thing that John Krasinski proposed after only 10 months of dating. But those two are definitely in love so it makes perfect sense.
5 She's Very Interested To Work With Leonardo DiCaprio
When Emily answered Vogue's 73 questions (from the beautiful Vogue offices during her stint as editor and while wearing a fashionable outfit), one of the questions for her was, "Who is your dream co-star?" to which Emily replied, "Leonardo DiCaprio."
We would love to see a movie that starred Emily Blunt and Leonardo DiCaprio so whoever's in charge of that should set things up ASAP! Without a doubt, Leo is probably someone that a lot of women would want to work with, not just because he's handsome but because he's a huge talent in Hollywood.

Out of all the celebrity parties that Emily Blunt would want to go to, she is desperate to hit up a P. Diddy party. We can't really blame her because his parties are legendary and only the biggest names in Hollywood have attended them. Emily wants to know where her invite is, and she wonders if it got lost in the mail. She's got such a great sense of humour! In an interview with the LA Times, Oh No They Didn't reports Emily saying,
“It's a big chip on my shoulder that I have not been to any of his parties - P. Diddy, Diddy Puff. But he was super nice to me. And he does look sharp, that guy. Doesn't ever go wrong with a suit.”
3 She Is An Accomplished Cellist
Not only does she have a lovely singing voice, Emily Blunt is also a cellist. Is there anything this girl can't do? It's pretty awesome that she has so many great musical talents. She sang in the movie adaptation of the musical Into the Woods. She also showed off her musical skill, that of an accomplished cellist in the movie, My Summer Love. It was one of her earliest films and she was quite young in the movie.
The woman is clearly talented and when it comes to her creative abilities, she has quite a few of them, it seems.
2 She Was Almost Part of The Marvel Universe
It's hard at this point to picture anyone but Scarlett Johansson playing the role of Black Widow. But there was a time when Emily Blunt was being considered for the role and she would have become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, she turned down the role - and that of Peggy Carter - telling Vulture,
"It was never the right time, really, and it just didn't work out scheduling-wise with those two. It's always a difficult thing to talk about, because it's not fair to the actresses who ended up playing them, you know? It just wasn't the right time."
1 Her Dream Job Is To Flip Houses
We thought that Emily Blunt already had her dream job but it turns out that her dream job is renovating and selling houses. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she confessed,
“It would be my dream just to flip houses. I adore renovating. I love working with different materials and coming up with a different story for each room. I am Pinterest-mad.”
IRL, she and John bought a Brooklyn townhouse for $6 million, then a year later listed the 5,200-square-foot home on the market for $8 million after doing various renovations on it, as Architectural Digest reports, so she's got some experience.
