And while romances come and go both on-and-off screen, friendships tend to be more lasting in both cases. Fans love watching their favorite TV BFFs together, and they love it even more when they learn that the on-screen duos are friends in real life.
While there are a lot of onscreen BFFs fans can turn to for friendship inspiration, unfortunately, there are also a number of costars who famously do not get along. It makes sense, considering the long on-set hours these stars have to spend together, they're bound to either get really close or grow to despise each other.

While some of these former nemeses have buried the hatchet in recent times, fans are still curious about exploring what led to the initial tension in their relationships.
For others, it seems like reconciliation is not going to happen in the near future, and it's even impacted the future of some of the series they've worked on together. Want to know who some of these sworn enemies are? Keep reading to find out!
20 Jennifer Aniston And Courtney Cox Are BFFs For Life
If you've ever owned a television, you've probably watched Friends before. We love that the cast has set out to continue the onscreen friendship that the show was about in real life.
Although they're all friendly, Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox are probably the closest from the main cast.
As E News reports, the show has been over for fourteen years now. That's a pretty long friendship by any standard, but especially considering these two actresses' busy schedules. Both the actresses have experienced big life changes publicly, and we can only imagine that after everything they've been through together, their friendship is going to last a lifetime.
19 Shannen Doherty Didn't Get Along With Her 90210 Costar Jennie Garth
The good news is that this feud has a happy ending. In 2014, Jennie Garth admitted that the feud rumors that spread about her and Shannen Doherty during their time on 90210 were in fact true. Jennie had this to say to E News, "We were locked in a sound stage for 14-16 hours every day. There were times when we loved each other and there were times when we wanted to claw each other's eyes out." We can imagine that spending that amount of time with anyone would inevitably lead to some conflict. Since the show's ending, the two stars have greatly improved their relationship. Shannen attended Jennie's 40th birthday party and the two stars have even worked together since.
18 Shannen Doherty Left Charmed Because Of Her Feud With Alyssa Milano
In the early 2000s, Shannen had a reputation for being difficult to work with. This reputation continues to follow her around, although we like to think those days are past her.
Similar to her relationship with Jennie Garth, Shannen also did not get along with her Charmed co-star Alyssa Milano.
They played sisters on the show, so surely the drama helped with the sibling tension. When Shannen left the show after three seasons, it was widely rumored that it was because of the tension between her and Alyssa. Nevertheless, in 2017 Alyssa assured E News that all that drama was behind the two women. Alyssa explains that she had a child, Shannen went through breast cancer, and these experiences gave them both the perspective they needed to mend their relationship.
17 Maisie Williams Is Going To Be One Of Her Co-Star Sophie Turner's Bridesmaids
As two of the youngest stars on Game of Thrones, it kind of makes sense that Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams would end up so close. The two played onscreen sisters on the show, and their friendship was clearly continued off-screen. With the show coming to an end, we certainly hope these two will continue to find time for each other, but we're not too worried about it. Sophie is due to marry Joe Jonas (probably sometime in 2019) and very early on, she asked Maisie to be one of her bridesmaids, Vanity Fair reported earlier this year. We love that all the time these two spent together onset drove them closer together instead of creating tension in their relationship. These two are definitely friendship goals.
16 Sarah Jessica Parker And Kim Cattrall Don't Want To Work On Another Movie Together
It's ironic to think about the feud between Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker, considering the wonderful friendship their characters enjoyed onscreen. No one really knows what happened between these two actresses, but it seems to have gone beyond some bickering and difference of opinions. As CNN reports, Kim's brother went missing before being declared deceased earlier this year.
Kim initially posted on social media to thank her fans and SATC costars, but apparently, that didn't include Sarah Jessica.
Kim went on social media to say this to her former costar; "You are not my family. You are not my friend. I don't need your support." Needless to say, this feud is definitely still ongoing.
15 Dylan O'Brien And Tyler Posey Are Bros For Life
For fans of the MTV show Teen Wolf, one of the most memorable aspects was the beautiful bromance that developed between Dylan O'Brien and Tyler Posey. At Comicon last year, Tyler talked about his friendship with Dylan, and he apparently got very emotional! Hello Giggles reports that he said this; "… it just felt really right… We were both in bands, we were both musicians, we had a lot in common with each other… it was just the greatest." Although friends come and go, there are always those people you make really special and lasting connections with, and it sounds like Tyler found that with Dylan. Though the show is over now, we hope these two continue to make time for each other and maintain their friendship!
14 Lea Michele And Naya Rivera Were Just Too Much Alike
We're probably not the only ones that have noticed that Lea Michelle and Naya Rivera look a lot alike. Naya dished all about her and Lea's interactions on the set of Glee in her memoir, Sorry Not Sorry. She explained it this way; "One of the Glee writers said that Lea and I were like two sides of the same battery… we are both strong willed and competitive, and that's not a good mixture."
People often talk about how it's important for others to put their differences aside to get along, but sometimes it's the similarities that cause conflict.
Naya insists that her and Lea's feud was blown out of proportion, but she made it very clear that they're not friends. Maybe someday these two can put their similarities aside!
13 Michelle Williams And Busy Phillips' Friendship Is Low-Key Underrated
A lot of people don't know about Busy Phillips and Michelle Williams' enduring friendship, and we think it's because the media prefers to focus on feuds instead. So we're here to shine a light on it! The stars have been friends for almost two decades after initially meeting on Dawson's Creek. Vulture reports that Busy is the godmother of Michelle's daughter with late actor Heath Ledger. When Michelle was nominated for an Oscar in 2006, she took both Heath and Busy as her dates. Busy once told People, "I'm so in love with her. She's proof that the love of your life does not have to be a man!" The two are often each other's dates to awards shows, and it's clear that they're always supportive of each other!
12 Stana Katic And Nathan Fillion Wouldn't Even Speak To Each Other Between Castle Scenes
Looks can be deceiving. While Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion appear to be completely at ease with each other, reality told a different story. Us Weekly reports that Castle ended after eight seasons, not long after it was announced that Stana Katic would be leaving the show. A source claimed that the two "completely despised each other."
Apparently, they didn't even speak off set, and tensions got so bad that the two were made to go to couple's counseling in real life.
They also said Stana cried in her dressing room all the time because of the conflict. Stana's rep denied that there was any tension between her and Nathan, and while we hope the rumors were false, it's also possible that she was just trying to save face.
11 Mindy Kaling And BJ Novak Are Soulmates
After initially meeting in 2004 when they were hired as writers for The Office, Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak maintained a friendship that many found unconventional, but was clearly natural to them. As Bustle reports, the two started dating around the same time their onscreen characters did but remained close even after their real-life breakup. BJ admitted that their relationship has always been complicated. These twos' relationship has always been hard to define, and that's only been intensified since Mindy recently had a baby and has not publicly announced who the father is. It's natural for people to wonder, even if we may never uncover the truth behind that mystery. We just hope that these two always remain close, no matter how they define their relationship.
10 Ariana Grande And Victoria Justice Had A Lot Of Ups And Downs
Rumors of a feud between Ariana Grande and Victoria Justice have always existed, and while it seems that any conflict between them has been largely blown out of proportion, this is a case were the actresses' actions have been pretty revealing. They starred on Nickelodeon's Victorious together, during a time when Victoria was the big star and Ariana was not very well-known.
The tables have turned, however, and just recently rumors of a feud reemerged between these two when Victoria wasn't featured in Ariana's "Thank u, next" music video.
The actresses have said multiple times that the two are on good terms, and while it's clear Ariana is closer to her other Victorious co-stars, it seems like any problem these two ever had is in the past.
9 Jared Padalecki And Jensen Ackles' Bromance Is A Fan Favorite
Supernatural has always had something of a cult following, and we'd say it's just as much about the show as it is about the friendship between Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. Bustle reports that these two even lived together for a time, and we can only imagine they must have really liked each other to spend so much time together on-set and then still go home together at the end of the day. Still, spending all that time together clearly didn't tear these two apart. They were groomsmen at each other's weddings and they've shared the experience of becoming fathers together. On top of all that, these two still get together to watch episodes of Supernatural. They clearly can't get enough of each other.
8 Teri Hatcher And Marcia Cross Had A Tense Relationship Behind The Scenes
There were a lot of rumored feuds between the ladies of Desperate Housewives. While rumors like that are destined to follow a female-led cast, unfortunately, there was some truth behind them. There were rumors that none of the main cast got along with Terri Hatcher, but the feud was believed to be most intense between her and Marcia Cross.
The Daily Mail reported that Nicollette Sheridan once called Terri "the meanest woman in the world."
Supposedly something happened between Terri and the rest of the women that none of them have ever chosen to discuss, and that led to the beginning of the rift. This feud is definitely another one of those mysteries we have yet to solve, but it does seem pretty revealing that so many people were against Terri.
7 Donald Faison And Zach Braff Are Always There For Each Other
They played best friends on the show Scrubs, and Donald Faison and Zach Braff have remained just as close in real life as their characters were despite the show ending. This adorable duo loves posting pictures together on social media. Sometimes they have wine nights, sometimes they hang out in jacuzzis together, and one time they even spoofed Kim and Kayne's Vogue cover. These two even have complimentary phone cases with each other's pictures on them. The cherry on top of all this? Not only was Zach a groomsman for Donald's 2012 wedding, but the whole thing was also actually held at his house, Popsugar reported. Zach is definitely the type of friend you want to keep for life!
6 Julianna Margulies And Archie Panjabi Refused To Film Together
In a case of life imitating art, actresses Julianna Margulies and Archie Panjabi's feud was believed to have started around the same time their Good Wife characters had a falling out. Bustle reports that fans initially became suspicious when the two actresses stopped appearing together onscreen, even during crucial moments of the show.
When Archie finally left the show, she and Julianna's characters appeared together… but it was apparently via the magic of split-screen technology.
Again Julianna tried to excuse the rumors, but this time Archie called her out on it. We can't imagine what caused a rift so intense between these two that they couldn't even appear onscreen together in character, and we may never find out.
5 Tina Fey And Amy Poehler Are Basically Life Partners
Arguably one of the most famous female friendships in Hollywood is the one between Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Of course, their friendship is also one of the most lucrative, when one considers the success of the projects they've worked on together. USA Today reports that the two have been friends for 22 years, which is incredible considering how both of their lives have changed throughout. The two apparently met at the Improv Olympics in 1993, and later became costars on SNL after Tina convinced Amy to join the show. They went on to star in the cult classic Mean Girls together, which Tina also wrote. They've also worked together on Baby Mama, Sisters, and hosted the Golden Globes together twice. Their friendship is inspiring from both a personal and a business standpoint.
4 Gillian Anderson And David Duchovny Have A Complicated Relationship
For a long time, the rumor surrounding X-Files costars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny was that they couldn't stand each other. Gillian has admitted that there were times when the two weren't even on speaking terms, despite being known for their onscreen chemistry.
Overall, it seems that while the costars don't abhor each other, they also aren't close.
According to The Daily Mail, Gillian once admitted she didn't know much about David. She said; "We've spent so much time over the years… but that doesn't necessarily make you close… we don't have meals together because we're spending so much time in each other's company." After knowing each other for 25 years, it's natural that these two have had their fair share of ups and downs.
3 Vanessa Hudgens And Ashley Tisdale Grew Up Together
Known for starring in Disney's super successful High School Musical movies as Sharpay and Gabriella respectively,Ashley Tisdale and Vanessa Hudgens have maintained a close friendship for twelve years now. These two were so young when they met, yet they have remained best friends through all the life changes they have experienced. Buzzfeed reports that Vanessa was even a bridesmaid at Ashley's 2014 wedding. The two frequently post about their hangouts on social media, and they even shoutout each other's projects on their platforms. With that kind of support, we think these two are bound to stay best friends forever!
2 Bea Arthur Wasn't A Fan Of Her Costar Betty White
We know that it's sad to think about, but even the lovable ladies of The Golden Girls had a feud at some point. The problem was mostly between Betty White and Bea Arthur, who played Rose and Dorothy.
Country Living reports that in an interview with Closer, it was Bea's son who admitted she wasn't the easiest to get along with.
He said; "My mom unknowingly carried the attitude that it was fun to have somebody to be angry at." By Betty's account, that became her because she was cheerful, whereas Bea was not. Apparently, the conflict was worsened by Betty getting an Emmy for the show first. They also differed on little things; Betty liked to talk to audience members between takes, whereas Bea preferred to practice her lines.
1 Shay Mitchell And Ashley Benson Love Going On Vacations Together
You know your friendship is official when you have a cute couple name, and Ashley Benson and Shay Mitchell have just that. Known as Buttahbenzo by their fans, these two developed a strong friendship when they starred on Pretty Little Liars together. The actresses often use their duo name to post pictures together. These two love traveling together, and often take pictures in front of views that are almost as beautiful as their friendship. Though their show is now over, these two still seem to be very close. There's even the chance that they'll find other projects to work on together. As Tina and Amy showed us, working with your best friend can be fun and lucrative.
