10 Female Celebs Who Are Not What They Seem And 10 Who Are Surprisingly Natural
Everywhere you look in Hollywood, there's fake literally anything. The obsession with altering your appearance has taken over and it seems like every other month, there's a new procedure that's becomes the newest trend. Who can keep up with all of it? Hollywood has a way of making people, especially women, feel like they're not pretty enough, not thin enough, and not perfect enough and the only answer is to change your appearance. It's sad how many celebrities fall victim to these tactics because even after dozens of procedures, they're still not happy with the way they look. When you tweak and tuck everything that you don't like about yourself, you never learn how to love yourself or to accept your flaws. That'll hurt you in the long run.
Though it seems like celebrities who decide not to get anything done to change their look (in an unnatural way) are generally happier than those who do, there are some celebrities who swear by getting anything done and don't regret it one bit--even though they're completely fake from head-to-toe. You'll see which celebrities are happy with the work they've gotten done and you'll see which ones are obviously not happy with how they look and will probably never stop getting more work done. All that matters is that you are the one who is making the decision, not anyone else. If you only get work done because you feel pressured to, chances are, it's not going to make you happy. You can decide for yourself if these stars are truly confident or not.
20 Natural: Cruz Control
Penelope Cruz may be playing Donatella Versace in the new FX series The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, but that doesn't mean that she agrees with the Italian fashion designer's stance on altering your appearance in an unnatural way. Cruz has maintained that she doesn't buy into Hollywood's obsession with looking youthful and she looks forward to getting older and letting nature take its course. "I've seen my grandmothers grow old and they are so beautiful, every wrinkle in their face tells a story," Cruz said. "I want to feel that in 30 years. I would always choose that kind of beauty over that comes from having too much done to yourself." Getting older doesn't have to be a bad thing but it can be if you become too obsessed with trying to look like you're in your 20s forever. That's never worked for anyone.
19 Fake: Curvaceous Courtney
Courtney Stodden became famous when she was 16 and she married 50-year-old actor Doug Hutchison in 2011. If you didn't know that she was only a teenager at the time, you would have assumed that she was at least in her twenties due to all of the facial alterations she got in order to look more mature. She's 23 now and over the years she has gotten a lot of work done on various body parts including her nose, lips, chest, chin, and porcelain veneers. If you saw a photo of her from when she was a young teen, you wouldn't even be able to recognize her. Though she says her procedures have made her feel more confident about herself, it's pretty clear that she is looking for confidence in the wrong place. Hopefully, she will realize one day that the quest to be perfect is a fool's errand.
18 Natural: Berry Natural
Halle Berry is famous for looking stunning and youthful throughout her 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s! She has been in Hollywood for decades but she still looks just as radiant as she always has. How does she do it? Not surprisingly, Berry does not attribute her youthful looks to reconstruction of any kind--luckily for her, she has good genes on her side. According to the Academy Award-winning actress, she believes that women in Hollywood are sold a bill of goods when it comes to altering her appearance and it is an industry that preys on people with low self-esteem. She doesn't want to have any part of it. "I see women in their 30s getting things changed about themselves, pulling this up and tucking that back," Berry said. "It's like a slippery slope - once you start you pull one thing one way and then you think, 'Oh my God, I've got to do the other side.'"
17 Fake: 26 and Plastic
Farah Abraham first became famous when she appeared on MTV's 16 and Pregnant as a teenager in 2009. She was only 19 when she went from an A cup to a C cup and it was the first of many things she's changed about herself. In 2012, she got a rhinoplasty and a chin implant and after she got the procedures, she said, “I finally feel gorgeous." Like most people who get dozens of procedures, she wasn't happy for long because she soon underwent a procedure to remove her chin implant! She also decided that she wasn't happy with her first breast augmentation so she went from a C cup to a D cup. Her next procedure was lip implants which she had an allergic reaction to and then she got her third breast augmentation after her second one was botched. The reality star is only 26 and she has pretty much tucked and tweaked every inch of her body it seems.
16 Natural: You'd Never Guess She's 44!
Kate Beckinsale is in her 40s but you would never be able to tell by looking at her. Though she never seems to age, Beckinsale has come to terms with the fact that aging is a part of life and she has embraced it. The Underworld star says she prefers how her mother looks rather than the alterations-obsessed people of Hollywood and she hopes to age like her. According to Beckinsale, "There's an obsessional hatred of normal human processes. Pregnancy changes a woman's body and should. It isn't normal to not look like you've had a baby immediately after you've had a baby." There are a lot of ways in which women are made to feel bad about their bodies and many women buy into it which makes them much more susceptible to the pressures of getting work done. It's not realistic to look like you're 20 when you're in your 40s so why even bother?
15 Fake: Keeping Up With the Surgeries
Kim Kardashian still maintains that she has not gotten as much work done as we think but you can't look at old photos of her without noticing some drastic changes. She may not be honest about her plastic surgery but the photos don't lie. As far as we can tell, she has gotten a nose job, breast implants, liposuction, a lifted hairline (to get rid of flyaway hairs), cheek implants, Botox, a bum lift, a tummy tuck, lip injections, and a chin augmentation. If she has gotten all of these procedures, she has easily spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on her looks--maybe even a million. Not only does it cost thousands for the initial procedure, but most of the procedures have a lot of upkeep and that's not cheap either. Kim may be one of the famous celebrities in the world but she is fake from head-to-toe.
14 Natural: She's All-Natural From Dusk Till Dawn
When Salma Hayek first got started in the business, she was told to get Botox early on so that it could keep her from getting wrinkles--she's glad that she never listened. She may be 51 but she is more confident than ever because she not only accepts her flaws, she has learned to love them. When it comes to plastic surgery, the Frida actress said, "Trust me, I've been tempted-but I resist! Think about what happens to your muscles and skin if you're sick and don't move for a few days. Plus, if you freeze a muscle in your face, other muscles have to compensate. Once you stop, what does that look like?" If only young celebrities like Kylie Jenner and Megan Fox took Hayek's advice! Hollywood makes it difficult for women to feel good about themselves but at least there are stars like Salma Hayek to look up to!
13 Fake: Over the Hills
After The Hills came to an end in 2010 and Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt were rich beyond their wildest dreams, they decided to do something pretty crazy with their fortune. Montag made headlines in 2010 when she debuted her new makeover after undergoing ten surgeries in only one day in order to look what she thought was "perfect". Among her many surgeries, she got a chin reduction, an eyebrow lift, two breast enlargements, cheek implants, and others which totaled to about $1 million! In 2013, Montag admitted that not only did she feel like the money she blew on the procedures was a total waste, she also had to get breast reduction after her size F breasts started to give her back problems. Now, almost eight years later, The Hills star said that she regrets spending so much money on these procedures and she hates that she was so obsessed with being perfect.
12 Natural: It's Not Aging, It's Evolution
Cate Blanchett has said that she doesn't have a problem with other women getting plastic surgery--she just doesn't want to do it herself! Though she says part of the reason she chooses not to get plastic surgery is because she doesn't like the way it looks, she also has never gotten any work done because she's "frightened" of it! Honestly, can you blame her? "When you've had children, your body changes; there's history to it," Blanchett said. "I like the evolution of that history; I'm fortunate to be with somebody who likes the evolution of that history. I think it's important to not eradicate it." The Carol actress is almost 50 but she radiates confidence wherever she goes. It's the kind of confidence you only get when you've come to love and accept your body instead of fighting against it.
11 Fake: Cher Shares Her Secrets
Considering Cher is 71 years old, she looks great. How does she do it? Well, she has been very open about how much she relies on getting work done and Botox to look young and fit. Cher has managed to stay relevant and successful for over 50 years because of her talent, business savvy, and her youthful energy. Say what you will about her but you've got to give her some credit. Few celebrities have managed to stay relevant for 50 years! In order to look as good as she does, she had to spend over $700k on cosmetic surgeries and procedures and she is not ashamed of it at all. The Goddess of Pop once said, “Yes, I have had a facelift, but who hasn't? I have become the plastic surgery poster girl.” Sure, she may be fake head-to-toe but she owns it. Facial alterations isn't for everyone but some celebs can't live without it.
10 Natural: Rachel Weisz is Wise
Rachel Weisz is 47 and she claims that she has never had any work done. She is so against going under the knife that she has made a pact with Kate Winslet and Emma Thompson forming the British Anti-Cosmetic Surgery League. Weisz says that she doesn't want to be one of those women who tweak every inch of their body because she wants to age gracefully. Though celebrities like Kylie Jenner may have full lips and slender noses, they have abandoned all of the aspects of themselves that make them unique and different. When every celebrity gets Kylie's lips and Kim Kardashian's nose, they all look the same and none of them stand out. That works if you want to be an Instagram model but it doesn't work if you're an actress. According to the My Cousin Rachel star, "People who look too perfect don't look sexy or particularly beautiful."
9 Fake: Fake Everything
Kylie Jenner may have been a part of a famous family but she became famous in her own right after she got so much work done that she started to look like a different person completely. She's been in the public eye pretty much her whole life so it's obvious to see that she's undergone some major transformations. We don't know exactly which procedures she's had done but it's pretty obvious that she's gotten lip fillers, a nose job, cheek implants, breast implants, booty implants, a chin augmentation, and eye lifts. All of these surgeries are rumored to have cost around $2 million! Kylie has built her brand on her new (fake) image and keeping up her appearance only make her more money--however, all of those procedures have to kept up regularly and the keep up can wreak havoc on a person's face over time. She's only 20 years old so it's safe to say that she will eventually regret these decisions later on in life--or she may take after Kris Jenner and Caitlyn Jenner and keep up appearances for the rest of her life.
8 Natural: Born This Way
In the beginning of her career, Lady Gaga often wore bizarre costumes and masks to hide her face… possible because she was often told by producers that she wasn't pretty enough to be a successful pop star. But she proved them all wrong! The American Horror Story star is not only talented and confident but she is also naturally beautiful and she believes that "society doesn't define your beauty." She also maintains that she will never get any kind of work done because, "promoting insecurity in the form of face alterations is infinitely more harmful than an artistic expression related to body modification." She knows that the quest to be "perfect" is a slippery slope and embracing your "flaws" is an important part of being human. If you try to tweak everything that you don't like about yourself, you might end up looking like the Cat Woman. Let that be a warning for you.
7 Fake: Dolly Does What She Wants
Dolly Parton knows she gets a lot of attention for her many alterations but it doesn't seem to bother her one bit. She's famous for saying, “You'd be surprised how much it costs to look this cheap” and she wasn't kidding. Over the years, she has spent thousands of dollars on procedures--breast implants, facelifts, nose jobs, brow lifts, chin augmentation, eyelid surgeries, and more. According to the iconic country singer, “If I see something saggin', baggin', or draggin', I'm gone have it nipped, tucked, or sucked!” Though she has long abandoned her natural looks, she stands by her belief that if these enhancements can make you more confident, then you should go for it-even if you're in your 70s. Unlike the celebs on this list who have sworn off reconstruction of any kind, Parton is proud of her fake looks and doesn't regret any of her many procedures.
6 Natural: Aging Like a Tree
Drew Barrymore has been acting in Hollywood since she was a young girl and she has seen many people fall victim to the facial alterations obsession. She says that it's just not for her. She has her own makeup company, Flower, and she says she relies more on makeup than she does on cosmetic procedures--though she also says that she goes without makeup about 90% of the time. Though she says she has used lasers on her face, she has never gone under the knife, saying, "I'm not putting anything in my face until it's so bad I have nothing to lose.” According to the Santa Clarita Diet star, she doesn't want to fight her body's aging process and she thinks of herself as a tree: "I say, don't fight the rings on the trunk of a tree. Just keep counting 'em." That's a nice way of looking at it.
5 Fake: Lil' Kim, is That You?
Since she got out of prison in 2009, Lil' Kim has changed a lot and every time she posts a photo or appears on the red carpet, she looks like a different person. Allegedly she spent thousands of dollars on skin lightening first, breast implants, nose jobs, cheek implants, and lip injections. She debuted her new, lighter skin on Instagram and it was straight up frightening. As shocking as a skin lighting procedure is, she is definitely not the first celebrity to undergo the treatment. She is one of the few to completely change her skin tone from black to white-along with Michael Jackson and Sammy Sosa and (allegedly) Mindy Kaling and Blac Chyna. We may not know why she decided to change her skin tone but we do know that she looks straight up terrifying and it is fake, fake, fake. Sometimes you have to do crazy things in order too stay relevant.
4 Natural: Pretty Woman
Julia Roberts said that she "took a risk" by not getting a face-lift, at least by Hollywood's standards, but she doesn't regret it one bit because it also could have completely tanked her career. When she's out and about, Roberts usually rocks a low-key look because who has time to obsess about looking red carpet-ready when you're a working mom? The Academy Award winning actress said that one of the reasons why she hasn't gotten any work done is because of her kids. According to Roberts, "My feeling is, I have three children who should know what emotion I'm feeling at the exact moment I'm feeling it." Considering she's an actress, it's not a good idea to get so much work done that she can't show any emotion! You can't look like you're in your 20s forever and the more you try, the more desperate you look. It's much better to age gracefully.
3 Fake: Foxy Lady
Megan Fox was already considered one of the most beautiful women in the movies when she first started getting work done to change her appearance. Her natural beauty caught everyone's attention in Transformers, but like many women in Hollywood, the pressure to always look "perfect" must have gotten the best of her. Over the past few years, she got three nose jobs, breast implants, lip injections, cheek fillers, laser skin resurfacing, and Botox. She got so much Botox that she can barely furrow her brow anymore. It is rumored that she spent about $60,000 on her new look. And she's only 31! It's hard to believe that someone as naturally beautiful as Fox would change her looks so drastically, but Hollywood has a way of making even the prettiest people feel like they're not pretty enough. She is still beautiful but we miss her natural looks.
2 Natural: Naturally Tina
Just like Liz Lemon, Tina Fey embraces her body and her looks which is one of the reasons why she is so beloved. Fey built her career on being funny and talented, not on her looks but the pressure that Hollywood puts on women to get work done can affect anyone. The SNL alum, however, rejects the notion that women need alterations to feel confident. While she doesn't have a problem with non-invasive cosmetic procedures, she is not a fan of needles. "You can point any kind of laser at my face, but I don't think Botox is for me," Fey said. "I think it is bad. People who have too much, they look like their faces are full of candles - a shiny, shiny face." It's so refreshing to see women like Fey embrace the aging process and feel confident about themselves, even when they are made to feel like they shouldn't be confident.
1 Fake: Part Human, Part Cat
Jocelyn Wildenstein (aka "Cat Woman") was always a well-known Manhattan socialite for years but she really became famous when she stopped looking less like a woman and started looking more like a cat. The Cat Woman got her first surgery in 1978 after she married a French billionaire and she claimed that her goal was to look as much like a cat as possible because her rich husband loved big cats. Forty years later, she hasn't let that dream go (even though she divorced her cat-loving husband). Though she was prohibited from using any of the alimony money toward work done, she has somehow managed to spend about $2 million on surgeries over the years which is about how much Kylie Jenner has spent on her looks in only a few years. If Kylie isn't careful, she could end up looking like the Cat Woman in a few decades.
