13 Most Shocking Online Dating Stories
We have a huge benefit when it comes to dating, a benefit that didn't exist 30 years ago and that is… .(drums) online dating! Our mothers and grandmothers had to limit themselves to people they physically met when it came to dating. We, on other hand, have the whole world at our disposal.
It might seem all smiles and good times when we think of all the potential partners we can reach with the limitless claws of the internet. Unfortunately, it's not all wonderful stories. These people prove that sometimes the online world can also be a cruel place, with its own set of lies and freaky people.
The online dating world can be a wonderful place, but one must also be cautious of it. In particular, because the virtual world will never match the real world when it comes to several aspects, like love. You eventually need to meet the person you're speaking to online to see if they're a match and if you'd like to move forward with the relationship in the real world. And this part is when the virtual reality can come crashing down.
These people have the most shocking online dating stories on the web. Stories that will leave you second guessing the idea of meeting people on the internet.
13 She Turned Out To Be a Completely Different Person
“This woman seemed really cool. We were both 25, she'd just finished her masters, and was job hunting. She was fit, witty, and had piercings. I was a fan.
We meet. Well, fit was apparently 5yrs prior, but she was "trying to get back to her normal weight" and so thought it appropriate to use the older photos. I'm talking a 70-85lb difference from photo to reality. I'm a pretty fit guy and have always been fairly health conscious so this doesn't appeal to me, but we can be friends.
She's witty though, so we talk. Where's the wit? I toss her a couple of verbal jousts. Nothing. Turns out her roommate had been helping her reply to messages. That's cool, I can be friends with nice people that aren't witty.
Okay, well her nose ring is actually a weirdly shiny wart that she tries to pass off as a nose ring because she's embarrassed by it.
All of this isn't the worst part though. We were out for dinner and went to a decent gourmet pizza joint. Low lights, thin crusts, and wine. Without asking, she reaches over and starts picking toppings of my pizza. Pardon me, but keep your damn hands off my prosciutto! It was unforgivable.”
12 He Was Too Desperate For Love
“Met a guy I had been communicating with on OKC for about a month. He seemed smart, funny, and we had quite a bit in common - at least on paper. I met him at a nice outdoor spot conveniently located close to the college public safety office just in case. He turned up and was incredibly cute as I had expected from his pictures, but something seemed kind of off from the start. Turns out he had severe Aspergers syndrome, and although that is not necessarily a deal-breaker for me, the date did not go well.
He talked about his obsession with blaxploitation films for the first full 30 minutes, and then told me he really needed me in his life because his parents had died in a car accident 2 years ago and he had no friends. Of course I felt terrible for him, but had to be honest about my feelings and let him know that although I did not see us dating in the future, I would love to hang out as friends. The next morning I woke up to 19 text messages from him. I opened my dorm room door and there was a bouquet of flowers. I had never taken him to my dorm.
Attached to the flowers was a note, which read "I am waiting for you at the school chapel. I have been waiting all night. Please please please come see me. I won't leave until you do." I ended up calling the college security and they escorted him off campus. I realize it was a bitch move, but not doing so would have likely made a bad situation worse.”
11 He Gave Her Mono and a Bruised Lip
“Went on a date with a handsome, smart, funny guy who was getting his Ph.D in mechanical engineering. We had a fantastic time… though he did get a little awkward with his humor at times.
Normally I don't kiss on the first date, but I had such a nice time - so when he walked me back to my car and went in for the kiss, I reciprocated.
Holy. F****g. Ouch. Terrible. Couldn't get away.
I made up some half-assed excuse "I gotta go let the dog out" and left.
The next morning, I woke up with a bruised lip.
Five days later, I went to the ER, sicker than I'd ever been. Turned out I had mono AND strep throat. I wrote him a text apologizing, saying that he might want to go to the doctor… his response?
"LOL. I had that."
He gave it to me.”
10 This Person Couldn't Even Log Into the Site
“I was desperately lonely, so I decided to try eHarmony. Spent a few long hours filling out their personality assessment stuff, trying to be as honest as possible. Finally get to the end, hit submit, and immediately get a message saying basically "Based on your answers, we're rejecting you because we don't believe you can have a stable relationship with anyone."
Was a great self-esteem booster.”
This story went horribly wrong, because as it clearly states, this person wasn't even allowed to try the online dating world! Because, for whatever reason, the site thought this person wasn't relationship material. I sure hope he or she tried a different website that didn't discriminate against the emotional stability of people. At least he or she was being honest with the answers, this alone should qualify as a good quality and should have been taken into account. At least there aren't so many limits when it comes to the real world, because there is no software determining who should be allowed to date.
9 He Ended Up In Prison
“I had been chatting with a guy on Yahoo Singles for a while, and we got along fairly well. When he asked me out to dinner I figured, sure, why not? It was singularly the most awkward and uncomfortable evening I have ever spent on a date. We spent our time attempting to make disjointed conversation… At the end of the evening we just simply said good night, and I figured that was the end of it. Approximately six months later, I received a message from his Yahoo account that roughly said the following: “Hi! This is X's brother. This is going to sound really odd, but X is in prison for a few months (a big misunderstanding!) and I know he'd really like to hear from you. His address is through the ABC Correctional facility. Please write him!”
Well… it was a bad date, it could have been a lot worse. What made this confession hit this list is what happened afterwards. Whatever crime he committed, this girl should feel relieved that she doesn't have to deal with it…
8 He Just Wanted A Green Card
“I was speaking to this guy on Tinder, and after only a few minutes he asked me if I would marry him for $10,000. No joke. Apparently he was a foreigner and wanted to become an American citizen. He couldn't comprehend why I declined. He said, “Other people would do it for half the money!” I was like, “Not me, hun!”
What of way to try to get a green card. This guy really wasted no time getting down to business. However, she should at least feel a little bit happy about the fact that she got to see his true colors straight away. Because how many horror stories are out there of people who just deceive and lie to get a green card. She's a smart cookie that didn't let the cash get the best of her and at least she didn't waste more time with this kind of nonsense.
7 She Started Punching Herself
“Conversation is going all right and she asks where I am from. I tell her I am from a city near there that has a rougher reputation. She lights up when I say this and asks if I was in a gang and how many fights I got into. I laughed and said I wasn't in any gangs and I hate fighting. I did tell her I got into a fight after leaving a bar a year prior and I never want to do that again even though the fight was super lame. I ended up with a black eye after the tussle, I work in a fairly conservative engineering office, so I did find it funny when I told people I got my black eye in a fight when they asked. My date giggled at that then said she always wanted to get in a fight, but would hate to get hit in the eye. I told her getting hit in the eye is better than getting hit in the mouth, because that shit hurts and bleeds even if the punch wasn't that good. She said she didn't believe me on this. I said I had older brothers and preferred getting punched most places other than the mouth. My date still didn't believe me. She then said, “I want to find out” and proceeded to punch herself in the face repeatedly to see which area hurt the most. In the middle of the restaurant. On our first date. I asked her politely to stop but she continued to do so. She did end up agreeing with me. We hugged, and went our separate ways, never speaking to each other ever again.”
6 She Lit Up, During The Date!
“Talked to a girl for a couple weeks when we agreed to meet up. The plan was to just cruise around all night. At one point we stop for a minute and she asked if I mind if she smokes for a minute. I think she means weed and say it's not my thing but go ahead. Then I hear this popping crackling sound… .
I watched a girl do meth.
It was really cold out and we were in her car so I thought I'd just roll with it and see how it went. Everything was cool, but never talked or heard from her again. Seemed like a nice girl, but considering the date started with an hour long phone call of her screaming at people over her baby daddy saying shit while driving erratically that girl was plenty crazy.
F*ckin' hot, though.”
5 She Didn't Look Like The Girl She Said She Was
“Girl and I had been texting, talking on the phone, even Skyped once (it was dark and hard to see). She actually had a great personality and we hit it off. Her profile pictures were of a gorgeous girl, always posing seductively. She told me to meet her at her hotel room at the Adolphus in Dallas, TX (very nice, very expensive). When she opened the door, I was speechless, this was NOT the girl in the pictures at all. It looked like she had eaten the girl in the picture! How could someone lie to me like that?
So I did what any nice guy would do… I f*cked her brains out and cried the whole time.
By the way, here's the actual girl that she had been sending me pictures of. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.”
Totally agree with this guy, the girl did wrong by lying and sending pictures of someone else, but come on!!! Does he not know who Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is?? Well… clearly not. And then again, I think this guy should have asked for another form of proof to see if she was being legit about her looks, like asking to take a picture with a sign that said something in particular. Or asking to Skype in a better lit room.
4 She Stole From Him
“I went on an [OKCupid] date and had a lovely time. We were in a rush so I got up to take my card to the front to pay for my bill. As I'm paying she walks past me not saying a word and leaves the restaurant. Puzzled I head back to my table to notice I left my wallet on the table and all my credit cards and cash were taken. I asked the table next to me and they confirmed she went through it. I cancelled the cards. The police did nothing and I stopped dating for almost a year.”
Stealing is just plain wrong! But doing it on the first date?! I mean, she could have at least waited for a second one, or when they got married she could have just not signed a pre-up. She would have gotten way more that way. Just kidding.
Poor guy, we can't blame him for deciding not to date for a year, with an experience like that, how do you get back on the horse?
3 He Used Her Just to Cheat
"I met a guy on Tinder and drove to a different state just to meet up with him. When I found him on Facebook later that night-after we hooked up-I realized he was cheating on his girlfriend with me. Not OK!"
It was kind of weird to drive to another state just to meet up with someone. But then again, that goes for every long-distance relationship, so it can be normal in certain scenarios. She doesn't really specify if they both lived in the same state and just drove to another one to meet up, because that would have been a huge hint that something was not entirely right.
Still, it is also kind of weird that she didn't decide to look deeper into him before going on a date. I mean, come on, let's be real here between us gals, we usually tend to stalk a guy online when we like him and that of course includes digging into his Facebook account.
Regardless, it must have felt pretty bad realizing that he was in a relationship and that she, unknowingly, became the other woman.
2 He Was Obsessed with Charting His Every Move
"I went on a four-hour (FOUR-HOUR) Tinder date with a match who proceeded to walk me through the intricacies of Excel. Every day he charted his height, weight, what he ate that day, what he weighed, what he read, watched, who he talked to, etc. For. Four. Hours."
I completely understand, the headline of this one probably left you wondering, “charting?” Exactly! That is why this date is weird af. Who on earth charts their every single move and everything they eat? And then proceeds to talk about it for four hours during a first date! This girl might have gotten the date from hell, but she sure got a very funny and interesting story to talk about in exchange. So not all is lost.
Hopefully that guy will get to read her words some day and realize that one does not talk about charting on a first date or ever! Of course when you get comfortable in a relationship you let your freaky side out a bit, but charting and talking about it for so long? Those are just signs that are letting you know that you should run away!
1 He Took His Work-Mates to the Date
"I had one guy bring his entire office to our first date because they had an office pool going about how it would go and didn't trust him to be honest. We were sitting at a table in the dining room, and I noticed a bunch of people perched around the bar, watching us. I was working at a research center for war and genocide at the time, and I guess enough people at the office thought I'd be super depressing, so they made an office pool, March Madness-style. I found out about it because I made some sort of inappropriate joke, and he followed up his laugh with, 'You're about to lose a bunch of people in my office a bunch of money.' I made it about 30 minutes until he started pointing out specific people in the bar and telling me what sort of plans he was going to make with them for us (some many months in advance). I went into the bathroom, called my roommate, and had her come get me. Haven't online-dated since."
