20 Unnecessary Things A-Listers Wasted Money On While Traveling

There are a countless number of perks that can come with having a huge net worth as a celebrity. For one thing, it places you among the elite celebs among the entertainment industry at a time where someone's image, title, and name means absolutely everything. Most fabulously, having a huge net worth and loads of cash in the bank from projects also means that said celebrity can buy whatever they want to spend their money on no matter what it says on the price tag. Unfortunately, this can be a downside to having a fame and money in itself if only because it can lead to some sort of spending addiction.

Yes, believe it or not, there are plenty of celebrities out there who often find themselves spending a gang of money with no end in sight. It comes with being allowed to buy anything in the world. Along the way, someone with that much money is either going to overspend with that power or simply buy something that is stupid. In some cases, it leads to celebs having an addictive little spending habit, but in others, all it means is that they do not know when and how to stop splurging on purchases.

20 BONO OF U2 BOUGHT A PLANE TICKET FOR HIS HAT

According to Contact Music, Bono forgot his hat while on a flight from London to Italy for a concert with Liza Minnelli and Eric Clapton in 2003. To rectify the issue, Bono essentially booked an additional flight for his own hat.

In total, Bono wound up having to pay $150 for the hat's private transfer to Gatwick airport, another $700 for the hat's very own seat on a British Airways flight and finally he paid $225 to ensure his hat's transportation from the destination airport to the concert venue.

19 CELINE DION SPENT $2 MILLION ON A HUMIDIFIER PERFORMING IN THE DESERT

Anyone who has ever bought a humidifier - regardless of whether or not they be rich or of average income - knows that humidifiers are not too much expensive. They're pretty cheap costing not much more than $25.

Well, apparently, nobody told Celine Dion just how cheap humidifiers were because during her three year stay at Las Vegas's Caesars Palace, she bought the most expensive humidifier she could find to help "preserve her singing voice in the harsh desert climate." The humidifier in question cost Dion an unheard of $2 million.

18 JUSTIN BIEBER PAID OVER $10,000 IN FINES FOR A MONKEY

In 2013, Justin Bieber was on tour. One of his tour venues was in Munich and Justin decided that this would be an appropriate trip to bring his pet capuchin monkey, Mally.

Upon landing in Germany, the customs officials asked Justin to provide documentation of vaccines and importation. Apparently, Justin did not think of bringing paperwork for the transportation of an exotic animal across international borders. German officials confiscated Mally and forced him to pay a $10,000 fine.

17 BEYONCE AND JAY-Z SPEND $20,000 PER NIGHT IN PARIS

For most of us, $20,000 is a lot of money that many of us will go their whole lives without seeing at once. For Beyoncé and Jay-Z, it's play money.

According to FiveStarAlliance.com, when the power couple visit Paris (which is rather frequently), they like to stay in the penthouse suite of the Hotel Le Meurice. This penthouse overlooks the Tuileries Gardens, contains a private kitchen and offers an expansive open-air terrace.

16 ANGELINA AND BRAD ONCE RENTED A HOME IN THAILAND WITH EIGHT LIVE-IN SERVANTS

It feels like only yesterday that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were the world's hottest and richest couple in Hollywood. Before the IT couple divorced in 2016, they rented out a home in Thailand to stay in as part of an exclusive vacation resort.

Of course, having a home in Thailand comes with a certain set of responsibilities that such busy actors can not commit to all by themselves. So to help out with those responsibilities, they hired eight servants who not only wait on them on hand and foot, but lived with them to tend to their needs 24/7.

15 NICOLAS CAGE BOUGHT A 9 FT PYRAMID IN NEW ORLEANS

Nicolas Cage is notorious for being a pretty weird dude overall and making some pretty odd purchases in the past. After all, he did buy a $276,000 dinosaur skull just so that he could outbid Leonardo DiCaprio. And let us not forget that Cage used to own his own castle.

One of Cage's stranger, head scratching purchases came when he bought himself a 9 foot tall pyramid shaped mausoleum tomb in New Orleans, Louisiana in a famous local graveyard called St. Louis Cemetery No. 1. The tomb remains unnamed and Cage refuses to speak on why he bought it, or who it's for.

14 TAYLOR SWIFT OWNS TWO PRIVATE JETS

For most people, owning one private jet is an unlikely, luxurious fantasy. For Taylor Swift, however, one private jet simply isn't enough. The pop princess owns not one, but two $44.8 million Dassault Falcon 900 tri-jets.

On the surface, it may not make sense to us common folk as to why someone would want to purchase two private planes, yet alone need them. But when we think about Swift's $90 million investment, we understand that it's easier to deal with two private flights than deal with crazy fans who can't control themselves why flying coach with their idol.

13 MILEY CYRUS BUYS HER DOG A $125,000 CAR

We all love our pets - especially when that pet happens to be a dog - but in some cases at least, some people may love their pets too much. We are talking about the kind of people who spend heaps of money trying to buy their pet their own clothes, their own homes, and even their own cars. Yes, you read that correctly. Cars.

What does a dog need a car for? That's the thing: they don't. But some rich folks think their dog would look cute in a mini-car. Miley Cyrus - who spent $125,000 on a Range Rover Sports Car - is one of those rich folks.

12 DANIEL RADCLIFFE SPENT $17,000 ON A MATTRESS

Working as an actor is a long and exhausting lifestyle to live. The same can be said about the life of a celebrity in general just because their live often forces them on the road. Not for pleasure, but for business. For the sake of red carpet events, interviews, press junkets, etc.

Actors often never get enough time to rest and when they do, they struggle to find the most comfortable mattresses to sleep in. Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe found himself the ideal mattress, but it came with a catch: it cost $17,000. He bought it anyway.

11 PARIS HILTON BUYS HER DOG A $325,000 HOUSE

We all love our dogs. Everybody would give the world to their dogs, but Paris Hilton giving her dog a $325,000 villa to live in - which includes a balcony, black crystal chandelier and designer furniture - might be a little much.

$325,000 is quite the hefty number for any house. Most of us humans will never be able to buy a house for $325,000, so it's interesting to think that Hilton would want to give her dog such a lascivious pad.

10 LADY GAGA SPENT NEARLY $50,000 FOR A PORTABLE GHOST DETECTOR

Everyone remembers the iconic line from the Ghostbusters theme song: "I ain't afraid of no ghost!" Well, the Ghostbusters aren't real. Common sense would tell us that ghosts aren't real either, but Lady Gaga would like to believe that they are. Not only does she believe in ghosts, she's afraid of them.

That's why she bought a $47,000 portable electromagnetic field reader in 2010 to track any negative energy that could be traced in concert venues she performed at. She's also hired spiritual consultants while on the road.

9 RIHANNA SPENT $300,000 PER WEEK RENTING A YACHT

Rihanna is notorious for her splurges on yachting vacations. In 2011, she spent $300,000 per week renting an art-deco style yacht to cruise along the French Riviera.

This particular yacht, the Latitude, offers accommodations for a maximum of twelve guests and it is outfitted by a crew of fifteen who attend to the guests' needs. More recently in 2013, Rihanna and model Cara Delevingne split the cost of a nearly $400,000-per-week yacht vacation in St. Tropez.

8 MADONNA OWNS A HORSE FARM FOR HER HAMPTON VACATIONS

Owning a single horse is a commitment in itself in terms of both time and event money. Madonna owns not just one horse, but an entire horse farm. According to NewsDay.com, Madonna purchased Wild Ocean Farm in the Hamptons for $5 million in 2009.

Wild Ocean Farm is a 30-acre property (previously owned by Kelly Klein) with stables and room for roaming. And if that isn't enough, Madonna also spent upwards of a million purchasing an adjacent property for the construction a vacation home. I just hope Madonna has hired someone to care for the horses when she isn't on vacation.

7 ASHTON KUTCHER PRE-ORDERED A TICKET TO SPACE

Russell Brand will not be the only celebrity venturing into space for the prestigious Virgin Galactic flight. He will also be joined by People's Choice Award winning actor Ashton Kutcher, who pre-ordered his ticket back in 2012.

What makes Kutcher's ticket purchase particularly special is that his purchase officially marked Kutcher down as the 500th person in the world to buy their ticket and will be voyaging along the Virgin Galactic space flight.

    6 VICTORIA BECKHAM's $22K CUSTOM PHONE

Some of us are just happy enough to own a phone, regardless of whether it is an iPhone, an Android, a Samsung, an LG, etc. We could maybe do without a Blackberry in 2019, but for the most part, any phone alone is fine by us. Victoria Beckham? She has to go above and beyond.

Victoria Beckham kicked out $22,000 just to buy herself a customized iPhone. This iPhone was customly made of gold and comes with a screensaver of her shirtless husband, David Beckham.

5 KYLIE JENNER AND TYGA RENT 12-BEDROOM MANSION FOR $15,952 A NIGHT

There was once a time when Tyga and Kylie Jenner captivated gossip magazines everywhere when they had a relationship that consisted of "are they or aren't they together" headlines followed by "they're on and off again" headlines.

During a time when the couple was on, they rented themselves out a 12-bedroom oceanfront vacation home in Punta Mia, Mexico that cost $15,952 a month to stay in. The home was built by Girls Gone Wild founder Joe Francis and is available to anybody with enough cash to rent it.

4 KELLY ROWLAND SPENT $15,000 A WEEK ON VACAY HOME WITH PRIVATE SNORKELING GARDEN

We know what you are thinking right now and don't worry, you are not alone on this one. We never heard of a private snorkeling garden either. Apparently, it is an undersea beach sized garden - which includes underwater corals and other plants - that is ideal for snorkeling.

So Kelly Rowland of Destiny's Child fame bought a vacation villa in Turks and Caicos where its most prevalent feature is a snorkeling garden. The home costs Rowland $15,000 a week in expenses.

3 JOHNNY DEPP OWNS A $3.6 MILLION ISLAND IN THE BAHAMAS

Controversy regarding the man aside, Johnny Depp has appeared in some of the biggest blockbusters in Hollywood history. Among them being the extremely profitable Pirates of the Caribbean series. Much of the wealth he accumulated from that franchise is why he could afford to buy himself his own island in the Bahamas.

The island in question cost Depp a hefty sum of $3.6 million and can be found in Little Hall's Pond Cay. He actually bought in 2004 while filming the first Pirates movie.

2 CHRIS BROWN SPENDS $2,500 ON MINIATURE TOY CARS FOR HIS DAUGHTER

Among several other things, pop sensation Chris Brown is notoriously infamous for owning a lavish car collection. However, being the type of dad that he is, he does not want his daughter to miss out on all the fun that comes with owning a car. So he bought her a car, which would be sweet if she was old enough to drive.

No worries. The car that he bought his child was a toy car, but because it was a miniature version of one of his own personal rides, the toy car cost $2,500 to get customized.

1 BEYONCE AND JAY-Z BUY $80,000 BARBIE DOLL FOR DAUGHTER'S FIRST BDAY

Jay-Z and Beyonce claim a second spot on this list and are the only celebs included to do so. To be fair, when a couple has a combined net worth of $1.255 billion, they will be bound to make a few questionable purchases every now and again.

In this case, the billionaire couple spent a whopping $80,000 on a Barbie doll for their daughter. We appreciate the sentiment being there and that they never put a price limit on their kid's 1st birthday gift. Still, most of us can grab a Barbie doll at our local store for under 10 bucks.
