16 Celebs Who Got Married So Quickly
Celebrities, they're just like us, right? That means that they can make mistakes when it comes to love, too. More celebs than you realize have rushed into relationships faster than they probably should have.
While there are plenty of Hollywood couples that were together forever before the got hitched, there are others that seemed to get together in the blink of an eye. All the stars that made this list have one thing in common: they got married after barely any engagement at all. Some of these celebs probably barely knew the person they were rushing to marry.
In some cases, the celeb eloped in Vegas after only knowing their future Mr. or Mrs. for a matter of hours. Others may have taken a couple months to finally say 'I do,' but it doesn't mean that their decision was any more thought through. As you'll see, most of these shotgun weddings led to divorce. But, some of these couples are still going strong. Which celeb couple are you the most surprised about?
16 Britney & K-Fed: Her Relationships Are Always Toxic
Poor, Britney. The iconic pop star has never seemed to have much luck in the romance department. Britney Spears has never had a romance as publicized as her short-lived marriage to Kevin Federline, which coincided with her very public meltdown. The singer married her backup dancer in June 2004, less than three months after they first met. They welcomed two sons, Jayden and Sean, before divorcing in 2006.
But this wasn't Britney's first rushed engagement! In the same year as she married K-Fed, the star also wed her childhood friend, Jason Alexander, in Las Vegas in January 2004. The marriage was annulled 55 hours later, reasoning that Britney was too intoxicated to be properly aware of her actions. Since divorcing Kevin, Brit has yet to remarry. She has been engaged several times, though she's yet to make it down the aisle.
15 Amy and Chris: No One Knew They Were Dating
Amy Schumer has long made fun of her single status, but she can't do that any longer! The comedian-actress recently surprised fans when she announced her shotgun wedding to chef and cookbook author Chris Fischer just this month. Barely anyone knew they were even a couple!
The pair had only first been spotted out together three months before their Malibu wedding, which took place in front of 80 guests. We guess Amy knew right away that he was Mr. Right! “He's totally not into the celebrity world and she likes how off the grid he is,” Amy told People magazine about her now-husband. “He's a really genuine guy who's very close to his family.”
Amy's bestie Jennifer Lawrence attended the intimate wedding. “When two people really love each other and they really mean it, it shows,” J-Law said of the couple. “It was a beautiful ceremony and an amazing time. I couldn't be happier for them.” We feel the same way!
14 Khloe & Lamar: Doomed From The Start
We're thrilled that Khloe Kardashian has finally found the man of her dreams (aka Tristan Thompson) and is welcoming her first child this year. But things weren't always so rosy in the reality star's love life. Previously, the star had an unhappy marriage to Lamar Odom, which may have had something to do with how quickly they rushed to the altar.
The couple knew each other all of one month before they walked down the aisle, including a speedy one-week engagement. Despite the rushed engagement, the celebs still managed to have a star studded wedding, including guests like Ryan Seacrest and Kobe Bryant. Unfortunately, Lamar's substance abuse and infidelity led Khloe to file for divorce in 2013. Their divorce was finalized in 2016, and by that time Koko had already moved on with her baby daddy.
13 Cameron & Benji: The Unlikely Pairing
Cameron Diaz long said that she didn't believe in marriage. Well, that was until she met Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden. The unlikely couple met through Cameron's good friend, Nicole Richie, who just so happens to be married to Benji's twin brother.
It must have been true love, since Cameron quickly changed her stance on marriage after meeting her future hubby. The couple officially began dating in May 2014, and were quickly wed in January 2015 following a one-month engagement.
“It was one of those things where everyone tells you, 'You just know when you know,” Cameron once explained to E! News about meeting Benji. “The first thing I said when I first met [Benji] was, 'He's hot. How come I didn't know this before?' We'd never been in the same circle.” And the rest is history!
12 Kaley & Ryan: Ended With A (Big) Bang
Kaley Cuoco plays the lovable Penny in The Big Bang Theory. Just like her character, the actress was single for a long time. But she didn't waste anytime rushing down the aisle when she thought she found Mr. Right. Unfortunately, she may have been a bit too hasty in signing the marriage certificate.
The actress surprised fans when she announced her engagement to Ryan Sweeting in September 2013, only three months after meeting her beau. The two didn't opt for a short engagement, either. They were married on New Year's Eve several months later.
However, things went south quickly for the two lovebirds and they officially parted ways in September 2015 after only 21 months of marriage. Sources have since revealed their marriage ended due to Sweeting's addiction to painkillers, following a 2014 surgery. "She supported him but she said he couldn't make the commitment to get sober. He'd tell her he was working on it and instead go get wasted,” a source said of their relationship.
11 Naya & Ryan: Better As Friends Or Lovers?
Naya Rivera has always been a bit wild when it comes to her romantic life. Back in April 2014, the Glee actress had just ended her 6-month engagement to Big Sean. Only three months after calling things off, Naya announced that she had married her longtime friend, Ryan Dorsey, in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Soon after, the couple announced Naya's pregnancy and she delivered their son, Josey, in September 2015.
From there on out, Naya and Ryan have had a pretty tumultuous relationship. A year after their son's birth, in 2016, the couple announced that they were parting ways. However, shortly after, they announced they were getting back together. As of now, it looks like the two may be estranged once more, as Naya was arrested in November 2017 for domestic battery against her hubby. Since then, the couple has been keeping a pretty low profile.
10 George & Amal: She Won The Eternal Bachelor
The whole world thought George Clooney was going to be single forever. The self-proclaimed eternal bachelor had regularly expressed his disinterest in getting married or starting a family.
But that all changed when he met human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin. The couple dated roughly six months before George popped the question, and they waited another six months before they tied the knot in Italy in April 2014. They went on to welcome twins, Ella and Alexander, in June 2017. As of now, the Clooneys are still going strong.
“I have such admiration for my wife because she's breastfeeding them and getting about two hours of sleep per interval, and the love they have for her is a sight to see and it's beautiful,” George has said of his wife and parenthood.
9 Kim & Kris: One Big Publicity Stunt
Before she became Mrs. Kanye West, Kim Kardashian thought she found the one in Kris Humphries (yes, he spells his name the same way her mom does). The two met in 2010 while Kim was filming for Kourtney & Kim Take New York. The two became engaged in May 2011 and only waited 90 days before getting married in a lavish, televised ceremony.
Unfortunately for Kim, this was not the happily ever after she was hoping for. The reality star filed for divorce after only 72 days of marriage, later saying she knew things weren't going to work out before they tied the knot. Needless to say, many fans remained convinced that this marriage was one massive publicity stunt. By the time their divorce was finalized several years later, Kim was already expecting her first child with her soon-to-be husband, Kanye West. Talk about complicated!
8 Mariah & Nick: Anything For The Diva
There aren't a lot of men who could put up with Mariah Carey's infamously Diva-ish ways. But she thought she'd met her match when she was introduced to comedian Nick Cannon. The couple first met at the 2005 Teen Choice Awards, but they didn't actually start dating until March 2008. However, it didn't take them long to think it was meant to be, since they tied the knot in the Bahamas only a couple weeks after going public.
Nick and Mariah went on to welcome twins, but they ultimately parted ways in 2014 when the TV personality filed for divorce. On the topic of co-parenting, Nick has said, “Whenever we can show that - even if we're not together, [that] we love each other unconditionally - and become that fine example to our children, they'll grow up to be good human beings, hopefully.”
7 Nikki & Ian: Vampire Lust Is Strong
Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed both became famous for starring in vampire franchises, so it kind of seemed perfect when they fell in love with each other. Things sure moved quickly; the couple were married in April 2015, less than a year after they began dating and after only a four-month engagement. The pair have since welcomed a daughter, Bodhi, in August 2017. Coincidentally, Nikki's first marriage happened after only 6 months of dating.
“To the most amazing human in the world,” Ian wrote in a post on Instagram for their second wedding anniversary. “Thank you for 2 incredible years of marriage. Thank you for being my best friend the hardest-working, kindest, most patient and most talented woman I've ever known.” He continued, “To you my love, I say that I know we will have so many of these we can't even count them.” Awww!
6 Gisele & Tom: Off To A Rough Start
Supermodel Gisele Bundchen and NFL star Tom Brady are now happily married, but things weren't always so smooth sailing in their relationship. The now-married actually started seeing each other when Tom was still in a relationship with actress Bridget Moynahan, with whom he shares a son. It didn't take long for Tom to leave his baby mama for the model. Gisele and Tom were wed after only a one-month engagement. They have since welcomed two children.
"I knew right [a]way - the first time I saw him," Gisele told Vanity Fair in 2009 about meeting her future hubby. "We met through a friend. The moment I saw him, he smiled and I was like, that is the most beautiful, charismatic smile I've ever seen! We sat and talked for three hours. I had to go home for Christmas, but I didn't want to leave. You know that feeling of, like, you can't get enough? From the first day we met, we've never spent one day without speaking to each other."
5 Drew & Will: He Tamed The Wild Child
We all thought Drew Barrymore had met her match in Will Kopelman. After less than a year of dating, Will proposed to Drew in 2011. The pair were married six months later in June 2012, and welcomed their first child, daughter Olive, later that year in September. They then had their second daughter, Frankie, in 2014. Unfortunately, the cute couple parted ways in 2016, though they remain on amicable terms.
Drew has been known to jump into relationships hastily in the past. The former wild child, who was once known for her substance abuse and partying ways, has been married multiple times. She was first engaged to actor Jamie Walters from 1992-93. She then went on to marry LA bar owner Jeremy Thomas in March, after less than a year of dating. They divorced after two months. She was also married to comedian Tom Green for around a year in 2001.
4 Heidi & Seal: She Needed A Baby Daddy Pronto
Only Heidi Klum could snag a guy when she was pregnant with someone else's baby! In March 2003, the supermodel began dating businessman Flavio Briatore. By that December, Heidi announced her pregnancy, though it appeared her boyfriend was not going to be in the picture.
However, while pregnant, Heidi began romancing singer Seal. He was present for her daughter Leni's birth in May 2004. That December, Seal popped the question to his blonde beauty. After only a 5-month engagement (and less than a year of dating), the pair were married in Mexico. They went on to welcome three children: sons Henry and Johan, and daughter Lou. Seal also adopted Heidi's oldest daughter.
Alas, this wasn't a fairy-tale ending. After 7 years of marriage, the couple called it quits in 2012. They've since pursued relationships with other people.
3 Pamela & Tommy: The Shortest Engagement Ever
Pamela Anderson and Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee set a world record when they got hitched a whopping 96 hours- or only four days- after meeting each other in February 1995. The couple lasted until 1998 and, during their marriage, they welcomed two sons, Brandon and Dylan. Afterwards, the couple maintained a notorious on-again, off-again relationship from 2001-2008.
But this wasn't Pamela's only time rushing down the aisle. In September 2007, Pam announced on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she was engaged to film producer Rock Salomon, after only a few months of dating. A couple of weeks later, they wed in Las Vegas. Yet, a year later, the couple divorced. What no one saw coming, however, was when the exes rekindled their flame in 2014, when Pam announced that the two had remarried (though she denied to give a specific date). History repeated itself a year later when they divorced in 2015.
2 Renee and Kenny: The Couple Everyone Forgets About
Could you imagine Bridgette Jones being married to a country crooner? Well that happened IRL when Renee Zellweger married country singer Kenny Chesney in a shotgun wedding. The couple met at the Concert of Hope tsunami relief benefit in January 2005, and were married four months later in May in a simple Virgin Islands wedding in front of 35 people.
However, perhaps Renee should have thought things through a bit harder, since she filed for divorce only four months later in September citing “fraud” as the reason for their split. In a joint statement, the couple said, "The miscommunication of the objective of their marriage at the start is the only reason for this annulment." However, gay rumours have followed Kenny ever since, which Renee has denied.
1 Nicolas & Alice: When Does He Not Do Weird Things?
Nicolas Cage is known for his bizarre behaviour, so no one was really surprised when he married his wife Alice Kim only months after meeting her.
The couple met at a restaurant in February 2004, while she was working as a waitress. They were married in California by July 2004. Mind you, this all happened in the same year that Nick finalized his divorce from Lisa Marie Presley (yes, the daughter of Elvis). Alice went on to give birth to their son, Kal-El, the following year. As of January 2016, the couple were separated, though no one had filed for divorce.
Previously, Nicholas was married to actress Patricia Arquette from 1995-2001. He and Lisa were married from 2002-2004, though the music legend's daughter filed for divorce less than a year after getting hitched. Their legal proceedings took longer than the actual marriage.
