    15 Times Famous Beauty Gurus Criticized Kylie Cosmetics

    When we first saw her, she was a fresh-faced young girl with wide, expressive eyes and an overactive imagination. Kylie Jenner seemed to always be overshadowed by her older, more successful, siblings. Since it was Kim Kardashian who basically made the entire family famous (with the help of mastermind Kris Jenner, though), the spotlight was constantly on her.

    Until now.

    Kylie managed to steal the spotlight away from her sister by creating a multi-BILLION dollar brand called Kylie Cosmetics (which came on the heels of PacSun, which was a clothing brand she started with her sister Kendall Jenner back in 2012). Time magazine even listed her as one of the most influential teens in the world thanks to her company. When she started pulling in the big bucks, even her sisters joked that now she “was considered the favorite child” in Kris' eyes (they all seemed to joke that Kris would tend to favor the child that brought in the most money).

    But not everyone is fond of Jenner's company, especially when it comes to certain cosmetic products. Here are 15 times that famous beauty gurus openly criticized Kylie's products and sometimes Kylie herself. But as we all know, Kylie isn't one to take a critique sitting down and had responded to most with vigor.

    15 When Jeffree Star Complained About Her Super Expensive Brush Set

    As the people say in the entertainment world, fashion gurus love “spilling the tea” when it comes to big-time beauty lines, ESPECIALLY Kylie's, which seems to take a lot of heat. Last year, Kylie released a 16-piece makeup brush set that cost $360 dollars, and most people flipped their lids. Including beauty vlogger (a video blogger) Jeffree Star, who went all in on the brushes. Star ripped apart not only the quality of the brushes themselves but the price tag. Kylie ended up defending the price, basically explaining that real brushes don't compare to synthetic brushes. Star claims that packaging the brushes come in “does feel very cheap” and then tests out the brushes themselves which he wasn't fond of. Turns out that the whole Star vs. Jenner saga seems to be ongoing as well.

    14 In Fact, So Did Manny MUA

    Kylie has been taking a lot of heat for the hefty price tag on her brush set from beauty gurus all over. Manny MUA (Gutierrez) is one of the most popular beauty vlogger and makeup artists around and has 4.4 million subscribers of his YouTube channel where he gives reviews of new beauty products. Like Star, MUA wasn't a fan of the brushes and dragged the product all over Twitter and on his channel. “So it's frustrating for me as a consumer… that, because it's her name [fans], are going to want to buy this $360 brush set and I just feel like it's not fair and I just feel like it's a little bit too expensive,” he said in his review. “and by 'a little bit' I mean it's way too [expletive] expensive.”

    13 … And Laura Lee

    The look on beauty guru Laura Lee's face in this screenshot above says it all (without literally saying anything) as she looks at the brushes and the packaging they came in. Much like Star and MUA, Lee wasn't a fan of the silver bag itself and called it “rough” for its price. When she tested the different brushes on her face, she didn't think they measured up to their individual $30 tags. When she closed her video review of the product, she said that while the brushes felt nice on her face, she would never spend that much on them. “Her prices are aligned with a lot of other brush companies, but I get it, people aren't seeing her brand as that luxe,” she said. Most vloggers said that she might one day get to that point once she earns her stripes.

    12 Makeup Shayla Was Upset That The Brushes Couldn't Handle A Wash

    If there's one thing that beauty vlogger Makeup Shayla knows, it's brushes. She is known to be obsessed with beauty brushes in her makeup reviews and tutorials online, so you bet she went all in when Kylie introduced her line of brushes. She said that if the brushes were “of good quality,” she'd shell out the money. Shayla DID end up loving some of the brushes in the set and how they blended in her makeup and thought they were good as far as quality, but when she went to wash them for the first time, they looked like frayed. “I don't know if it's because I used soap,” she said. “It got a little frayed. Nothing really shed, but they do look a little messed up.” She even said they looked a “little cray, cray” after they all dried.

    11 When Jeffree Star Revealed Kylie's New Velvet Lip Kit Line Before She Could Herself

    Even though he's out of her good graces now, Jeffree wasn't back when she was waiting to release her new Lip Kit shades to the world. Like most beauty gurus, Star received the product ahead of time in order to test it out and drop reviews for it AFTER Kylie herself revealed the line. Though Star didn't seem that interested in waiting for Kylie to reveal the product to her fans, so he did it himself two hours before she was set to reveal the colors. Star posted the swatches and the three new colors on his Twitter account (along with their names: “Poison Berry,” “Strawberry Cream,” and “Grape Soda”). Kylie released the colors herself on her Instagram account later on the day and didn't appear to have any beef with Star doing it before her.

    10 And Who Can Forget When Rihanna Fans Weren't Fond Of Kylie's Concealers?

    Rihanna launched Fenty Beauty, her very own beauty line, back in September and both fans and critics alike praised the company for creating concealers for all different types of skin tones. “I wanted things that I love,” the singer said of her line. “Then I also wanted things that girls of all skin tones could fall in love with.” Soon afterward, Kylie's company also released 30 shades in order to make her brand more inclusive. This prompted Rihanna fans to start throwing shade at Kylie, allegedly claiming that Jenner was attempting to copy Rihanna. “Happy for the inclusion but Kylie hunnie, we see it for what it is! Sticking to Fenty beauty tho!” one fan tweeted out. @jasaronii tweeted out: “Kylie has 30 concealer shades now… Rihanna applied pressure and now everyone's trying to diversify. Too late”

    9 When James Charles Apparently Had Enough Of Kylie's Brand

    Beauty guru James Charles is no stranger to throwing shade at the Kardashian/Jenner beauty brands. When Kylie's brushes came out with that hefty price tag, Charles took to Twitter. “All brushes are sold individually, or you can buy the limited-edition set for $360, which comes with the silver roll to store all of your brushes. #SilverSeries” he tweeted out. “I love Kylie but what the [expletive]?? For $360 those brushes better do my makeup FOR me and facetune my photos after too.” Of course, his tweet went viral, and thanks to that (and Star's critique), Kylie responded, saying that “I always fight for the lowest price on all my products. Here are some other real brush lines for reference,” and posted some pictures of Mac and Kevyn Aucoin brushes. It should be pointed that Kylie DOES listen and always responds to her fans.

    8 Jackie Aina vs. Kylie Jenner

    After Kylie launched her more inclusive concealers and vloggers took to the net in order to review the products after they received them and apparently, vlogger Jackie Aina wasn't too thrilled with the lack of diversity when it came to releasing the product. “You went out of your way to create this beautiful bottom row of darker colors, but I didn't see a single person on YouTube outside of Shayla… reviewing these products,” Aina explained. “I'm not on [the Kylie Cosmetics] PR list and I'm most certainly not the only black beauty guru out there, but I'm just saying - why did you go out of your way to create all those shades and you didn't bother to send them to anybody to review? I want to see some reviews from some chocolate girls. I just wanna know where are they?” She makes a very fair point.

    7 When Manny MUA Reviewed Kylie's New “Stormi Inspired” Collection

    Earlier this month, Kylie launched her new makeup collection in honor of her brand new baby girl Stormi, which is absolutely on point (and incredibly sweet). But not everyone was a big fan of the Weather Collection, including MUA. “There's definitely some things I would change about the collection personally,” Manny said in his video review. He went on to call some of the eyeshadows felt too “chunky” and even “flaky.” Some of the names in the collection include “Cosmic Matte Lipstick,” and “Calm Before the Storm Kyshadow palette,” and “Lightning Bolt Ultra Glow” (all incredibly creative names). Despite the high costs of the product line, you really can't deny that the collection is actually pretty fierce and MUA even admitted that he looked amazing after all the makeup was applied in his video.

    6 Is The Kit Half Full Or Half Empty? Jordan Cheyenne Demanded Answers

    There were many times that Kylie Jenner's cosmetics company has been called into question, and this was just another occasion. Not just one, but a bunch of vloggers took to YouTube to express their dismay at the fact that their Kylie Metal Lip kits actually arrived nearly half empty. “I was happy with everything,” vlogger Jordan Cheyenne said in her video review of the product. Even though she was truly happy with the product, she was less than thrilled when it showed up practically empty. “This was something I splurged on because I was so excited. To spend $18 and have something a third full is not really fair to the consumer.” She compared them other glosses and liquid mattes that arrived completely full to prove her point.

    5 “She Stole My Look” Claimed Makeup Artist Vlada Haggerty

    Now, this particular feud wasn't exactly aimed at Kylie's cosmetic line, but rather how she was marketing the looks on her Instagram feed. A couple years ago, after Kylie released her holiday campaign, she featured an image on her feed of a pair of gold-painted hands and deep matte red lips. Turns out, it was the spitting image of makeup artist Vlada Haggerty's work, and Haggerty wasn't about it take it laying down. Haggerty threatened to bring a lawsuit against Kylie's company even as Kylie herself remained quiet about the entire debacle for a short period of time. Instead of issuing an apology, Kylie actually posted the Vlada's original work on her Instagram page and encouraged her fan base to check her out. It was reported that no lawsuit was ever officially filed against Kylie's company, so hopefully, the two were able to work things out.

    4 See Ya Star!

    You can actually push Kylie too far, as Jeffree Star now knows. Kylie had it up to HERE with the vlogger constantly dragging on all her merchandise and finally did something about it. “I can confirm I've been removed from the Kylie Cosmetics PR list,” Star tweeted. Kylie's PR list includes a lot of influential beauty vloggers and bloggers who test out Kylie's merch ahead of time. And of course, Star was not happy about it. “Just for the record, I could care less about getting free products,” he tweeted out after the fact. “I buy anything I have ever wanted to review that you guys have told me about. I invest a lot into my channel and this is just pure comedy to me.” He then went on to say that Kylie “definitely can't handle” negative reviews even though he's given her rave reviews in the past.

    3 Battle Of The Palettes - “Kylie Copied Me,” Claims Shaaanxo

    Turns out, a lot of vloggers and other cosmetic companies have accused Kylie of copying popular products. One of the biggies was when fans stepped forward and claimed that Kylie 's Kyshadow palette looked a little too much like popular YouTube star Shaaanxo's 18-color eyeshadow and lipstick palette (that she has with BH Cosmetics). Shaaanxo (real name Shannon Harris) tweeted out a picture of her own eyeshadow palette (which was released long before Kylie's) next to the Kyshadow with a frog and tea emoji. Even she never said anything (other than the emoji), her fans took the hint and started throwing shade themselves. “Why does Kylie's new palette look practically the same as Shannon's palette?” one fan tweeted out. Kylie did end up giving a behind the scenes look at how her palette was made to prove that it's unique.

    2 Is It Just Color Pop Repackaged? Nikkie Seems To Think So

    A while back, Seventeen.com reported that some of Kylie Jenner's customers were saying that Kylie's Spice and Blitzen lip gloss color pop shades had been repackaged and sold as brand new colors. “Why are Spice and Blitzen the same exact shade just different packaging? I'm so mad,” @_calvarez tweeted out. Fans were saying that the Spice is almost identical to Blitzen (both described as a deep raspberry plum), including vlogger Nikkie Tutorial. Kylie had been accused by Nikkie in the past of ripping off ColourPop's matte lipstick formula. “Been told Kylie's kits are rebranded Colourpop liquid lipsticks sold for $29. Think about it, Colurpop is hyping Limbo out of nowhere,” the vlogger tweeted out. Of course, that tweet has since been deleted after Kylie addressed the rumors herself.

    1 And Last But Not Least, Everyone Seems To Think That Her Pop-Up Stores Are Unhygienic, Including Rich Lux

    Kylie just can't seem to catch a break when it comes to her cosmetics and, yes, even her pop-up stores. These particular pop-up stores actually allow fans to browse through the makeup and try all the ones they like out. This didn't go off without a hitch, however. Some vloggers who went to these certain pop-up shores described the scene as “unhygienic”. YouTuber Rich Lux (below) claims that the staff had actually allowed customers to open up all the packaging for the products and most left the items in shambles. “There was this table with Kylie makeup in it, and it was just all thrown together,” he said. “People not only used (and) put it on their hand, (they) put it on the white table, put it on the glass, and then threw away the cap.” He then said it looked like a “hot mess.”
