15 Celebrities CAUGHT… Looking Normal
We might be used to seeing celebrities wearing extravagant dresses and flawless makeup at award shows and swanky events but every day life doesn't take place on a red carpet. You know those days when you have places to go and things to do and you don't feel like putting on any makeup? Well, celebs have those days too… only they have cameras following them wherever they go. Still, some celebs are not too vain to always leave their house with perfect hair and makeup--they're busy, after all, and they don't have the time for that! We love celebrities who don't pretend to be perfect and don't mind leaving the house without even a bit of makeup. It makes us like them more and it makes us feel a little bit better about ourselves.
There are many celebrities who take selfies and do photoshoots without makeup in order to inspire and empower others and then there are some celebs who just have things to do and they don't have time to check in with the glam squad before picking up coffee or going to the grocery store. These celebs are comfortable in their own skin and don't mind if they get caught by the paparazzi while rocking the natural look. Makeup is a great and fun thing to enjoy but who doesn't love ridding their face of it with a facial scrub after the end of a long day? These are some celebs who got caught looking like the rest of us, in other words, normal.
15 Fenty Beauty
Rihanna may have her own makeup line but she doesn't wear makeup all the time. Sometimes she likes to go out with a more natural look and she looks great! Sure, Rihanna doesn't need makeup to be attractive but she looks great with it too--especially when she's wearing Fenty. No matter what she's wearing or, in this case, not wearing, she always glows with beauty and confidence and though we love it when she's wearing dark lipstick and eyeliner, we love fresh-faced Rihanna just as much. Sometimes wearing a smile and holding your head up high can make you feel beautiful, even when you're not wearing makeup. Though sometimes there is nothing more empowering than putting on some red lipstick. This pic of Rihanna on the streets of New York City with a fresh face is definitely inspiring for all of us.
14 In the Wilde
Olivia Wilde is known for her good looks but it's good to know that she's human just like the rest of us. Considering she's a working mother of two, no one can blame her for leaving the house without putting on makeup--and she doesn't need it anyway. The former House star may be the face of Revlon but who has time to put makeup on every day? She has a great natural look and she exudes confidence, even when her skin isn't as flawless as it is on the red carpet. Though for her roles in Tron: Legacy, she was all dolled up for the part but in her newest movie Meadowland, she chose to wear no makeup at all. Sure she has bags under her eyes but often when celebrities try to get rid of their tiniest of imperfections, they end up looking like plastic. Being imperfect is totally natural, even for a celebrity.
13 No Photoshop, No Problem!
Kate Upton may be one of the hottest supermodels in the business but even she is not immune to blemishes. The Sports Illustrated model was photographed post-workout looking completely natural. As most of us women know, acne isn't a problem you have to deal with in high school and then never again. For many women, acne is a part of life and constantly trying to hide blemishes will end up driving you crazy. Looking at models on the runway or on the covers of fashion magazines can make any girl feel insecure so it definitely boosts our confidence when we see supermodels looking normal and natural. Because of Photoshop, not even supermodels can look as good in real life as they do on the cover of magazines! Trying to reach those high expectations is just impossible so embrace your imperfections!
12 Even Kim is Normal… Sometimes
Kim Kardashian recently said in an interview that she was scared to death of leaving her house in fear that the paparazzi would nab a bad photo of her but she hasn't always been so afraid of a bad picture. Kim has been in the public eye for a long time and if you've been famous for as long as she has, you're bound to have some unflattering photos of you floating around on the internet. Though nowadays Kim is rarely seen without makeup, she looks just fine without it. Sure, her skin doesn't look as flawless as it does on the red carpet or even on her TV show and her hair is messy and needs a good brushing but it's nice to know that she's a real person underneath all of that glam. Not even Kim Kardashian can look flawless all the time and that should make us all feel a little better about ourselves.
11 A Modern Woman
Sofia Vergara is one of TV's hottest stars and she always looks stunning on the red carpet--especially when she's with her handsome hubby Joe Manganiello. The Modern Family star may look tired in this pic but she is still a natural beauty and it's nice to know that even one of the most beautiful people in Hollywood can look a little tired before they've had their morning coffee. We've all been there. The Columbian beauty can still turn heads without a lick of makeup but she insists that it's confidence, not makeup or glam squads that make a person attractive: "Beauty is really all about confidence. If you feel beautiful, then you are beautiful.” Well said, Sofia!Though it can be hard to feel beautiful when you haven't gone through your regular makeup routine, you should always feel good about yourself, no matter what. Of course, a little makeup never hurt anyone.
10 Beautiful, not Beastly
Emma Watson may play a Disney Princess onscreen in Beauty and the Beast but not even she can look like a princess all the time! The Harry Potter star is a hard-working actress who also launched her own U.N. Women campaign, HeForShe, which is centered on calling on men to fight for gender equality. She is very vocal about her feminist views and she says that she believes that she wants to "empower women to do exactly what they want." If you want to wear makeup, then you should wear it and if you don't, then you shouldn't feel like you have to--it's all about your choice, not society's. According to Watson, she isn't afraid of being imperfect and that she's even looking forward to getting older: "I'm excited about the aging process. I'm more interested in women who aren't perfect. They're more compelling." So true, Hermione!
9 Stone Cold Fox
Emma Stone is one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood with two Academy Awards under her belt but even she can't look perfect all of the time. Though she is known for her signature red hair, she is actually a natural blonde and only died her hair red because she could get more acting roles as a redhead than a blonde. This is because, as a blonde, she was always typecast as a "mean girl" but when she was a redhead, she was offered more substantial roles. Classic Hollywood, right? Still, we love the La La Land star's natural hair color and her natural beauty. It's nice to know that she isn't afraid to be caught without wearing any makeup because trying to be perfect all of the time is just exhausting. Stone herself has said that she embraces flaws in herself and in others, saying, "Flaws are my favorite part of people usually.”
8 Who Wants to Wear Makeup on a Plane, Anyway?
Rita Ora always looks great with her signature red lips and perfect complexion but who can look that flawless all the time--especially after a long flight. According to the "Your Song" singer, it is more important to feel yourself than to try to impress people and she even has a regiment inspired by that belief: "Before every show, I have to put perfume on. I know the crowd's not necessarily going to smell me, but when I smell good, I feel like I can dominate the room." Perfectly curled hair, red lipstick, nail polish, and perfume are ways that we can express ourselves and feel good about ourselves--it doesn't have to be for anyone else but ourselves. However, sometimes it feels good to just not wear any makeup at all and knowing that even Rita Ora can look a little tired and blotchy sometimes should give us all hope.
7 Hear Her Roar
Katy Perry is an artist known for her bright lipstick and porcelain white skin but she's a real person underneath all of that makeup. According to the "I Kissed a Girl" singer, you don't need makeup to make you feel beautiful and you can conquer the world with a bit of confidence: "If you're presenting yourself with confidence, you can pull off pretty much anything." Sure, it may be hard to feel confident all of the time but that's something that you have to find within yourself--nobody else can give you that. Relying on others to make you feel confident will never work. Though she's famous for having a photo of herself without any makeup at all posted on Twitter by her ex-husband, Russell Brand (which was immediately taken down but not before it had been screenshot hundreds of times), anyone is bound to look unflattering in the middle of the night in bed.
6 Mommy-To-Be
Mindy Kaling is a successful TV star, the writer of multiple best-selling books, she's about to appear in a big Hollywood movie, A Wrinkle in Time, directed by Ava Duvernay. On top of all that, she's about to become a mother as well! Basically, Mindy is a busy woman and she doesn't have time to do her makeup every morning. The Mindy Project star has always been vocal about her looks and she wrote in her book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? that the opinions that others have of her looks do not keep her up at night and she doesn't let them bother her like she used to. Though she says that she resents the idea that she doesn't subscribe to certain beauty ideals, she embraces them on her own terms. Kaling is definitely a force to be reckoned with and she inspires us to be the very best we can be--even without makeup.
5 Nobody's Perfect
Miley Cyrus may be embarking on a new stage in her career with her new album Younger Now and her acting career and she's leaving the twerking, short-haired Miley behind but she is still the same when it comes to her views on beauty and confidence. The "Wrecking Ball" singer has been criticized for her bizarre looks and onstage antics but she embraces her imperfections with her head held high. She claims that her mother taught her to be confident, no matter what: "I don't want to be perfect, but I do want to be a role model. My mom always tells me that imperfections equal beauty. All of us are imperfect." Or you could take some advice from her iconic song "Nobody's Perfect" from her Hannah Montana days: "Nobody's perfect/You live and you learn it/And if I mess it up sometimes/Nobody's perfect." These truly are words to live by. Thank you, Hannah Montana.
4 Double Trouble
Two for one! Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift were spotted together and neither of them were wearing makeup and they looked surprisingly normal. Though it's easy to think that these two beautiful singers are flawless, it's nice to know that even they can look a little dazed early in the morning like we all can. Gomez has said herself that she doesn't see herself as being perfect and that she makes mistakes but the "Look What You Made Me Do" singer, on the other hand, has said that she is terrified of being "average." Swift may not be the best role model when it comes to being yourself but even she can have flaws--just like anyone can. There is nothing wrong with looking normal or average, as long as you feel confident in yourself, that's all that matters. Trying to reach perfection will only make you crazy.
3 Naturally Kendall
Kendall Jenner may not be known for wearing as much makeup as her sister, Kylie, but she definitely wears makeup just like the rest of the Kardashian/Jenner clan. Though all of the women in their family are beautiful without makeup, they love to glam up and it's rare to see one of them without any makeup at all. Considering that Kendall is only 21 years old, she still has a great complexion and naturally good looks but she definitely looks different without her usual glam, though she claims to go out without makeup often. Though she's not known for empowering quotes like Mindy Kaling, she has the occasional wise word to pass on to her fans, such as "If you can't see anything beautiful in yourself, get a better mirror." Sure, it's not the best but if Kendall can sometimes go out in public with an imperfect complexion, than we all can.
2 Makeup-Free Mila
We all know that Mila Kunis is always gorgeous on the red carpet but what about in every day life? Though the Bad Moms star sometimes leaves the house without makeup, she still looks great. According to Kunis, she likes to keep her beauty routine low-key, saying, "I don't wear makeup. I don't wash my hair every day. It's not something that I associate with myself. I commend women who wake up 30, 40 minutes early to put on eyeliner. I think it's beautiful. I'm just not that person." We couldn't have said it better ourselves. Though it's refreshing to see beautiful celebrities looking normal, it's important to remember that if you want to wear makeup then you should wear it--but it should be because you want to wear it and not because you feel that you have to. Your beauty routine should empower you and get you ready to start the day. If it doesn't do that then what's the point?
1 We're Gaga For Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga not only has a beautiful voice but she is also naturally beautiful. However, in the beginning of her career, she was often turned down by producers because they thought she wasn't pretty enough but she proved them all wrong. Lady Gaga is talented and confident and when you're feeling yourself, you can leave the house without makeup from time to time. To the American Horror Story star, no one can tell you if you're beautiful or not and that it has to be found within yourself: "You define beauty for yourself, society doesn't define your beauty." Being perfect is an impossible goal to aspire to and chasing it will only leave you feeling empty. The "flaws" that you have should be seen as the things that make you unique and distinguished and you should never let them get the best of you. It may sound cliche but it's true--beauty comes from within.
