15 Worst Dads From '16 And Pregnant' You Forgot About
We all remember how bad some of the moms were on 16 & Pregnant, but some of the dads were just as bad! They say that a teen dad is unlikely to marry the mother of his child, and this show definitely proved that statistic right. From being abusive, cheating on their pregnant girlfriends, and refusing to have anything to do with their kids, these dads are the worst of the worst. The MTV reality show documented the lives of young teen couples as they became parents for the first time. The demands of parenthood often brought new struggles for the couples, and the drama was all caught on camera. Most of the couples didn't even survive until the end of their episodes, or at least another few years. At least it gave rise to the spin-off show, Teen Mom, and personalities like Leah Messer, Jenelle Evans, and Farrah Abraham. Take a walk down memory lane with the stories of these bad teen dads who you forgot starred on MTV's iconic show.
15 Josh Smith
Josh Smith and his girlfriend, Jennifer Del Rio, welcomed twin sons, Josh and Noah, during their episode of 16 and Pregnant. But the couple's drama was far from over, even after Jennifer gave birth. The couple was shown getting into numerous physical altercations during the show. In one case, cameras showed the couple getting into a heated argument while driving. Jennifer demanded that Josh pull over so she and the twins could get out. But things got ugly when Josh drove off before she could get the boys out of their car seats. Jennifer was left on the side of the street, screaming and crying hysterically. Josh was eventually arrested, and the cameras showed him being hauled away in handcuffs, all while Jennifer was screaming that he'd never see his sons again.Unsurprisingly, the couple eventually broke up. Jennifer reportedly moved cities in order to escape her ex-boyfriend. She has since welcomed a third son, named Sebastian, but has remained quiet about the father. It's unclear how involved Josh is in his kids' lives.
14 Isiah Robinson
Christinna Cook and Isiah Robinson's episode sounds like something out of a movie. The teen couple dealt with a ton of drama even before welcoming their daughter, Destiny. Perhaps the most memorable moment was when Isiah's grandmother pressured Christinna to take a DNA test to prove he was the father. Christinna was rightfully upset that her boyfriend didn't defend her against his family, and his passiveness seemed to be a contributing factor in their eventual split. The former couple ended their episode by running off and getting married and welcomed another daughter shortly afterward. However, it wasn't a fairy tale ending. The couple eventually divorced after Christinna felt her partner was getting too distant and disinterested. She later revealed she had to beg him to spend time with their family and felt that she couldn't trust him. Once they separated, it became clear that Isiah wasn't as dedicated to his family as he once promised. Of their relationship, Christinna said, “At first he came to visit Destiny every single day he had off from work and he supported her financially in any way he possibly could. Ever since we officially decided to get a divorce and stopped talking, he hasn't come to visit Destiny or helped financially in over a month. It's almost like Destiny and I were a package deal, and now that were not together, he doesn't have anything to do with her. It really hurts.”
13 Ryan Edwards
Fans quickly fell in love with feisty redhead Maci Bookout but the same can't be said for her former high school boyfriend, Ryan Edwards. The pair welcomed their son, Bentley, in 2009, and Ryan made little to no effort to be involved in his son's life. During their episode, this was the cause of many arguments between Maci and Ryan and eventually contributed to their split. Maci went on to star in Teen Mom, and her struggle to co-parent with Ryan has been widely documented. Over the years, it doesn't seem like Ryan has gotten more involved in his son's life. Both Maci and Ryan's parents have had to beg him to take interest in Bentley. He is rarely there when Bentley is visiting his paternal grandparents, he hardly ever attends his son's important events, and he's constantly late to pick up Bentley. Teen Mom has showed how the now 7-year-old has begun to notice how uninvolved his father is. Luckily, Maci has since married a new man, who has been a great step-dad and male role model for Bentley. The newly married couple have two other children, daughter Jade and son Maverick. Even though Bentley's dad seems like a flake, we're glad he has a stable family who loves and adores him.
12 Nathan Stone
Though Nathan Stone did marry his pregnant girlfriend on 16 & Pregnant, his actions afterward proved that he wasn't as great a teen dad as everyone originally thought. Nathan and Megan McConnell welcomed their son, Blake, on season 2 of the reality show. It seemed like everything was going to go smoothly for the young couple even after the cameras stopped rolling. They had gotten married, and seemed to both be on the same page when it came to raising their son. However, not long after they were married, the former couple got divorced. Megan has since made some startling allegations against her former lover. She alleged that he had been both physically and emotionally abusive with her on separate occasions. He was also reportedly pursuing another girl while the two were married, all of which contributed to their decision to call it quits. Megan has also been vocal about her hatred towards MTV. She accused the network of editing her episode to make things appear worse than they really were. She also said they forced her to say untrue things during her on-screen interviews. Since their split, it appears the former couple has moved on. Last we heard, Megan was living with her new boyfriend, Chase (who she met through co-star Kayla Jordan) and that the two had welcomed a son, named Lyle.
11 Weston Gosa
Weston Gosa and Whitney Purvis are definitely not contenders for any “Parents of the Year” awards. The former teen couple share two sons together: 7-year old Weston Jr. and 3-year old River Blake. During their 2009 episode, their tumultuous relationship was closely followed by the cameras. Fans saw as the two fought over everything and anything, and struggled to properly parent their son. Everyone was shocked that the two lasted as long as they did and that they even went on to have a second child together. However, the drama has not eluded the two. In 2011, Whitney reportedly broke up with Weston for his partying ways. Then, in 2012, both the teen parents were arrested. Whitney was arrested for shoplifting from a local Wal-Mart, while Weston faced charges related to a DUI and drug possession. By the end of 2012, the couple were back on and were arrested together for property damage and trespassing. More recently, in September 2015, Whitney was arrested for attacking Weston with a broom. She was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon and trespassing. As of 2016, Whitney and Weston are no longer together and are reportedly in relationships with other people.
10 Devon Austin
Fans were cringing left and right when they watched Briana Dejesus and her boyfriend, Devon's, episode as they welcomed their daughter, Nova. During the beginning of the episode, Devon ignored Briana's text where she tells him she's pregnant and begs him to be involved. Right off the bat, Devon was extremely unsupportive and adamant that he didn't want to be involved in his daughter's life. Devon showed up at the hospital when Briana went into labor but stormed out when he discovered Nova would not be getting his last name. He makes a few more appearances on the show after Nova is born. But, in a heartbreaking scene, he later stands Briana and Nova up during a scheduled visit, proving this teen dad isn't in it for the long haul. Briana later went on to star in Teen Mom 3, which showed how uninvolved Devon continued to be in his daughter's life. As of now, Briana is currently expecting her second child, though the father is unconfirmed. Devon has had his fair share of run-ins with the law in the past years and has been arrested various times for shoplifting and drug possession. It was rumored that Devon and Briana had gotten back together several years ago, but it seems that they have since separated, and it's not clear whether he is involved in Nova's life or not.
9 Adam Lind
Adam Lind is the famous ex-boyfriend of Chelsea Houska, who went on to star in Teen Mom after welcoming their daughter, Aubree. Fans have always resented Adam for his seeming lack of interest and concern for his daughter. During their episode, Adam and Chelsea were constantly depicted fighting. After Aubree's birth, Chelsea struggled to get Adam involved in her life. He ended up sending her a heartbreaking text message, in which he called his daughter a 'mistake' and said he wanted to sign over his parental rights. The text read, “You fat stretch mark b*tch… tell me where and when to sign the rights over for that mistake.” Since parting ways, both Chelsea and Adam have had other children with different partners. However, Adam has yet to clean up his ways. He has had constant legal troubles related to his numerous DUIs and failure to pay child support for both of his daughters. He has even been in and out of jail. He has been accused of stalking and abusing steroids, while one of his ex-girlfriends has even gotten a restraining order against him. It's also been documented on Teen Mom that Adam still refuses to have much to do with Aubree, although he insists he wants joint custody. He wouldn't even take Aubree to a father-daughter dance at her school. We're happy that Chelsea is currently married to what seems like a lovely guy (he happily took her to the father-daughter dance!), and that Aubree has a strong male figure in her life.
8 Josh Drummonds
Nikkole Paulun's tumultuous relationship with her then-boyfriend, Josh Drummonds, was thoroughly documented during her episode. The teen couple welcomed their son, Lyle. But, shortly after his birth, things went sideways for the former high school sweethearts. Josh stopped helping out with his son and didn't seem to be very interested in being involved. This caused Nikkole and Josh to increasingly argue, which led them to exchange harsh words and eventually to break up. By the end of their episode, it was unclear if Josh would be involved at all in his son's life. On social media, Nikkole later revealed that Josh had asked her for a paternity test after Lyle was born and that he had accused her of sleeping around. Since then, Josh has been in and out of jail. As of 2015, the young dad was serving a two-year sentence for multiple accounts, including domestic violence, trespassing at Nikkole's mother's house, and eluding the police. Nikkole has since moved on, and she welcomed a daughter with her boyfriend, Ryan Rice, a little over a year ago.
7 Matt McCann
It was hard not to feel bad for Alexandria Sekella during her episode. Not only did the teen have to deal with an unplanned pregnancy (and being pressured into adoption by her mom), she also had her flakey, drug-addicted boyfriend, Matt McCann, to worry about. Matt was continually absent before and after his daughter Arabella's birth. He even did a stint in rehab and afterward was allowed to live with Alex's family while the cameras were rolling, but he still failed to clean up his act. Eventually, Alex had to break-up and cut ties with her former lover for the sake of their daughter. Since his time on 16 & Pregnant as well as Teen Mom, it doesn't seem like Matt has been doing much better for himself. It appears that he has no part in Arabella's life, and is doing nothing to financially or emotionally help Alex as she raises their daughter. Matt was reportedly able to remain sober for three years after Arabella's birth, and in that time got married and had another child. However, after the birth of his son, Matt reportedly relapsed and split with his wife as a result. He is said to have no contact with his second child, just like with Arabella.
6 Alex Gutierrez
Felicia Cook and Alex Gutierrez are another former 16 & Pregnant couple who have more than one baby together. The couple share two daughters, Genesis and Giselle, even though they are no longer together. During their episode, the couple was constantly on and off, and no one was able to tell if their relationship would stand the test of time. There were allegations of cheating from both parties, and Felicia even confirmed that she did cheat on Alex during her pregnancy. Due to all of their arguing, it might be for the best that these parents are no longer together. Despite the drama, Felicia has revealed that she and Alex are still close for the sake of their daughters. She has also revealed her regret from going on the show, saying that it sometimes misrepresented her and Alex's relationship. Of their decision to do the show, Felicia revealed, “It's ridiculous that I can't put one thing out there about my life without someone making a million fake accounts of me and letting the whole world know my news [… ] I really regret being on MTV worst mistake ever.”
5 Andrew Lewis
Jenelle Evans is widely credited as one of the worst teen moms to ever be featured on the reality show. But her baby daddy, Andrew Lewis, might be just as bad (or even worse) than she is. During Jenelle's episode, Andrew was absent for almost the entire thing. When he was featured on camera, he seemed widely out of touch with reality along with disinterested and unmotivated. Jenelle later revealed that Andrew told her he moved out of the country to pursue a modeling career, but something always felt fishy about that excuse. In the end, Andrew left Jenelle and her family on their own to raise Jace and has never made an effort to pay child support or even visit his son. Given that Andrew has barely been involved in his son's life, it seems hypocritical for him to say the harsh things that he has said to the press. Jenelle ended up responding on Twitter by saying, “He owes $12,000+ in child support and yeah if he came here they would arrest him QUICK.” As poor a mother as Jenelle may be, she definitely has a point.
4 Mario Escovedo
Mario Escovedo came across as possessive while fans watched him and his pregnant girlfriend, Cleondra Wrease, during their episode. The couple became parents to Kylee in 2010, and right off the bat, they were arguing where the baby should live. Fans felt that Mario became obsessive with Cleondra and their daughter by the end of their episode, and not in a good way. He insisted they move in with him, or else he refused to help out with Kylee. The young parents also argued over who should watch their baby, leading to even further arguments. Eventually, Mario and Cleondra were involved in a domestic dispute in August 2011 that led to their eventual split. Both parties were arrested. Since then, the two have been engaged in a heated custody battle, during which Mario has had full custody of his daughter. Cleondra made headlines when she set up a GoFund me page in order to raise money to try and get custody of her daughter again. She has since welcomed another child, son Adrian, with her now husband. There are currently no plans to change this former teen couple's custody arrangement.
3 Joey Maes
During their episode and brief stint on Teen Mom 3, Katie Yeager and Joey Maes' relationship was shown to be violent and chaotic. Even after welcoming their daughter, Molli little calmed down in their household. The couple was often shown to be engaged in explosive arguments, where they shared heated words and sometimes got physical. It wasn't long before this teen couple parted ways, and we honestly think it was for the best. Since then, it has become public knowledge that Joey physically assaulted his former girlfriend on multiple occasions. In several instances, Katie had to call the police and file a report against Joey. He reportedly even broke her nose on one occasion after showing up at her house and beginning to act erratically. A source told Radar Online that Katie didn't want to press charges in order to spare her daughter the drama. There have also been rumors that Joey has cheated on Katie with multiple women, and was physically as well as emotionally abusive to her throughout their relationship. The former couple has been broken up for several years and have had children with other partners.
2 James Worsham
Markai Durham and her boyfriend, James Worsham, are another former couple who just didn't seem ready for parenthood. In 2009, the two welcomed their daughter, Za'Karia. But their relationship only seemed to worsen after they became parents. The two began increasingly arguing and disagreed about what their future looked like. It only became worse when Markai discovered James had been cheating on her during her pregnancy. She expressed her anger by physically beating him up, which Dr. Drew reminded the couple is domestic violence. The couple was featured during a 2010 MTV special that followed Markai as she had an abortion, after discovering she was pregnant with their second child. Markai later took to Twitter to share her regret over the abortion. Since their eventual split, Markai and James have both moved on in their romantic lives. In 2013, it was reported that Markai was pregnant for a third time, though no further details have been released.
1 Ryan McElrath
Jamie McKay wanted to have a traditional family with her boyfriend, Ryan McElrath when she discovered she was pregnant. But this former teen couple's romance ended up as anything but. In 2010, cameras showed the couple welcoming their first child, daughter Miah. After becoming parents, viewers got more of an insight into the problems in the young couple's relationship. The two struggled to transition to parenthood together, and it was soon revealed that Ryan and been unfaithful to Jamie during her pregnancy. In addition to their parenting problems, Jamie and Ryan had their fair share of legal issues. In 2011, Jamie was arrested for punching a female classmate (though the case was eventually dismissed). Ryan was arrested the same year for assaulting an unidentified female and resisting arrest. This also led to rumors that Ryan was once again cheating on Jamie. The couple also reportedly struggle with substance abuse. Ryan has been arrested various times for possession of different illegal substances as well as underage drinking. He has also been arrested for speeding and DUIs. Despite their problems, the couple have remained together. Jamie revealed she'd had an abortion in 2012, and she later gave birth to the couple's son, Mason, in 2014. The family has since kept a low profile on social media and in the tabloids, so it's unclear if Jamie and Ryan are still together, and if they've stayed out of trouble.
