15 Lines That Are More Romantic Than I Love You
All right, everyone. Get ready to swoon. We tend to believe that “I love you” is the most powerful phrase in existence. What it represents might be the most powerful force around, but there are plenty of ways to say it that are really fresh, and quite frankly, that will melt your heart. Don't worry about trying to craft the perfect way to show how you feel yourself (unless you're something of a wordsmith) because history is filled with the most beautiful lines written by the most talented poets and writers, all about love. Most of the following quotes aren't nearly as famous as they should be! So whether you want to express your feelings without freaking him out with those three words, looking for some inspiration for wedding vows, or just want to surprise bae with how deep you can be, here are 15 beautifully different ways of telling someone that you love them.
15 Bringing Up Commitment
The following quote by an incredibly gifted, unknown poet will tell somebody you love them while at the same time telling them that you want to commit: “I look at you and see the rest of my life before my eyes.” Not only is the expression gorgeous, but with that line, you're really saying so much in 14 words. Whether or not you've ever been the settling-down type or been ready to commit to anything, saying this quote will let bae know that you aren't going anywhere. Of course, plans change all the time, but please don't say it if you don't intend to stick around for at least a little while because that's seriously misleading! But if you are ready to say it and mean it, it's super powerful. You're letting them know that they aren't just a person anymore, but representative of your whole future together. Serious stuff!
14 Love That Grows Every Day
If you're with somebody and are so in love with them that the sheer force of it all is beyond your power and your feelings get stronger and stronger every day, then this quote by Leo Christopher is the one for you: "I swear I couldn't love you more than I do right now, and yet I know I will tomorrow." If we tried to phrase that ourselves, it would probably come out incredibly cringe-worthy, but nobody can deny the beauty that lies within the simplicity of this line. It actually is enough to make you sit back and sigh! The quote explores the limitations of love, which somehow has the unique power to grow to its maximum potential, and then keep growing eternally. It makes you question whether you can ever really love someone to a definitive point, or whether you'll keep finding new ways to fall more in love.
13 Love In Spite Of Flaws
We feel like this quote has the potential to really, really make someone's day: "I want you. All of you. Your flaws. Your mistakes. Your imperfections. I want you, and only you." From another unknown wordsmith, this is all about loving somebody despite their flaws and lets the other person know that they aren't perfect, but that's not what's important. There's often such an emphasis on finding the perfect person who has everything you're looking for, and while we don't think you should settle for somebody you aren't passionate about, just know that you can be passionate about people who aren't what you were hoping for. Those feelings that you can't fight are much more important than any checklist! If you heard this quote come out of bae's mouth, a lot of your insecurities would be wiped away (even if just for a while!), and you'd be shining with happiness. Admit it!
12 Airing Regrets
What is it with all these unknown poets? Wherever you are, we give you serious credit for blessing us with these to-die-for words! This quote is another super cute one that is all about expressing that you've found someone special: "I wish I could turn back the clock. I'd find you sooner and love you longer." The message isn't that new, and it kind of travels along the lines of “I wasn't alive until I met you” and “My life wasn't complete until you were in it” but this is a much more succinct and effective way of saying it. You're basically telling them that they're the best you've ever had and they've totally improved your life, and if you have a single regret, it's not meeting them sooner. Every single serious partner on earth would be stoked to hear that, and since it comes in such pretty packaging, you've got nothing to lose!
11 Not Wanting To Live Without Them
Thank you, A. A. Milne, for this quote that just put a huge smile on our faces: "If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you." You'd definitely want to make sure that you really did love the person you were going to say it to, and that they felt more or less the same because we can see how this could come across as a bit creepy. If you're with the wrong person, this could be interpreted as a bit of an obsessive thing, so it's definitely a good idea to make sure that the feeling is totally and completely mutual. But if you're all good to go, this is a gorgeous way to tell somebody that you want to spend the rest of your life with them. In so few words, you're saying that they're really the most important thing in your life, and since you're not going on and on about it, it's pretty cool.
10 Showing Them Off
You can usually tell how serious somebody is about you by how willing they are to show you off to their family and friends, so the following line will let the person you're with know what's up: “I want everyone to meet you. You're my favorite person of all time.” Appearing in the book Eleanor and Park by author Rainbow Rowell, this line is so simple and yet says so much. If you want everyone to meet bae, then you must feel strongly about them. Just make sure you intend to follow through with your declaration because their response might be, “When?” Telling someone that they're your favorite person of all time is also very meaningful, though it sounds like something playful and light-hearted. This quote is perfect for newer couples or those who don't like to get sappy because on the surface you're just being cute, but there are layers!
9 Being Yourself Around Them
This quote of unknown origins will have whomever you're saying it to shining bright like a diamond: “I'm much more me when I'm with you.” Most of us aim for that point where we're comfortable enough around somebody to just be ourselves, so telling your significant other that you are already at that point is pretty special. You're saying that they bring out the real you and that all the pieces finally match. Especially if you're a person who struggles with insecurity or you feel like you have to hide parts of who you are from the rest of the world, your partner will love hearing that you feel at home with them. You're essentially telling them that things feel right, and we don't know of a more positive sign in the world of romance! This one would probably also make an awesome wedding vow that your guests won't gag over.
8 Finding Your Way Back
They say that if it's true love, the person you let go will always come back to you. So this quote by Diana Peterfreund perfectly sums up how you feel about somebody whom you won't ever be able to stop loving, no matter how much you try: “No matter where I went, I always knew my way back to you. You are my compass star.” This passage comes from the work, For Darkness Shows the Stars and captures how some people will always have a hold on us. This one is perfect if you've broken up before but are back together now, or have even had a few troubles in the past but are on the mend again. It shows them how important they are to you. Hey, the compass star is a freaking big deal! It also lets them know that whatever happens in the future, you guys will work it out, and that's pretty awesome.
7 Their Effect On You
If your boyfriend brings out the best in you, they just might be a keeper! Roy Croft sums love up perfectly in this quote: “I love you, not only for what you are but for what I am when I am with you.” What a beautiful way of telling someone that they change you for the better! This is kind of like the quote about how you can be yourself in front of someone you love, but it goes the extra mile. Not only can you be yourself, but the person you're with actually improves you. You're telling them that you love yourself when you're with them, which might even be more important than loving them, and the core of what love is about! It might be because they influence you for the better, they help you to see the world in a better way, or even because they simply make you happy. We think this is crazy romantic and we just love it.
6 Loving Their Imperfections
We seriously can't get enough quotes about the role of imperfections in a romantic relationship. Angelita Lim was on to something in her quote about perfection within love: "I saw that you were perfect, and so I loved you. Then I saw that you were not perfect and I loved you even more." It doesn't matter how many times we hear this message because it never gets old. You don't love somebody because they're perfect, but rather because they have flaws which make them human. You can't tell somebody enough times that you accept their flaws, so we highly recommend this one! It even explores the concept of people trying too hard to be perfect when they meet someone and how those actions end up driving their lover away. As much as pop culture reinforces the important of perfection, most people prefer and can better relate to people who are actually human!
5 Admitting You're Theirs
We don't like the concept of owning somebody, but in the dramatic world of literature, anything goes. Amie Kaufman wrote the following quote, and we love it: "You have me. Until every last star in the galaxy dies. You have me." Wow! Telling someone that they have you in this context doesn't necessarily imply that you belong to them and they're going to brand you, but that you are loyal to them. It's almost saying that the games and flirting back and forth and chasing can all stop now because things just got serious. Then when you factor in the part about dying stars in the galaxy, the quote is just magical! That part of it implies that this is definitely a long-term thing, and you're as committed as you're ever going to be. That, plus telling them that they have you, is definitely saying a mouthful. We love it!
4 They're Pretty Much Your Life
This might be one of the prettiest things you've ever heard: "Thinking of you keeps me awake. Dreaming of you keeps me asleep. Being with you keeps me alive.” From another unknown writer, this quote is all about having the person you love totally take over your life, and not in the problematic, unhealthy way! You're saying that you're thinking about them and dreaming about them when they're not there, but come alive when they are there and you do get to spend time with them. So in other words, a boring way of saying this would be: “Dude, you're really, really important to me.” Now, you probably shouldn't let somebody consume 100% of your life (if you want to keep your job, your friends, and your family). This is a beautiful way of telling someone how much they mean to you, but also feel free to think about other things!
3 They're The Most Important Thing… Ever
This line may or may not make bae's heart melt, even if bae is the most unemotional person ever. In Tiger Lily, Jodi Lynn Anderson writes, “Sometimes I can't see myself when I'm with you. I can only just see you.” This is basically saying that somebody is so important to you, that they blur out everything else, including yourself. Most of us hold our own interests at the center of our own little universes, so for somebody to come along and place themselves at the forefront of your mind, it's a big deal. This is all about forgetting yourself and your needs briefly because you love somebody enough that they have that big of a hold over you. We also like how she includes 'sometimes' in this because it's probably not the best thing to forget you and your needs in the place of somebody else all of the time!
2 Choosing Them
Telling somebody you choose them might be more significant than telling them you love them, so the following quote could be life-changing when it comes to your relationship: "I choose you. And I'll choose you over and over and over. Without pause, without a doubt, in a heartbeat. I'll keep choosing you." We don't know who wrote it, but we see that they knew a thing or two about the nature of relationships. While the heart and emotions play a huge part in love, you generally do have to run things past your head too. If you're choosing someone, you're saying that you've thought it through, and they are the decision you are making. Whether it is a good idea or not, and whether the pros outweigh the cons or not, committing to choosing someone over and over is declaring that you not only have strong feelings but are going to do something about them.
1 Telling Them They're The One
Our top quote goes to yet another unknown author: "The first time I saw you, my heart whispered, 'That's the one.'" We couldn't compile a list of amazing love quotes and not include at least one reference to soulmates! If you're calling somebody “the one”, you're for all intents and purposes saying that they are your soulmate-the peanut butter to your jelly or the Carrie to your Big, if you will. Reciting this quote to someone is more powerful than telling them you love them because it's very possible to love people whom you won't be spending the rest of your life with, and who aren't meant for you. Including “the one” is a whole other ball game, and you're basically declaring that you're done searching. The quote is meaningful, clear and succinct, and expressed in such an enchanted way, you'd be pretty crazy to choose “I love you” instead!
